Yes this heucher/ella stuff has got to stop. Kimono is beautiful but I agree Sea Foam is more appealing to me. Do you post these pictures by using a digital camera? I have no experience with digital cameras.

Digital cameras and love of plants make an excellent combination!

Yes, I made them with a digital camera and it was too dark outside when I took the photo of 'Sea Foam' so it didn't get as sharp. Hihi, Gardenbug, I agree

I think the quality is very impressive in fact. I am amazed at how close you can get to the leaf. How easy is it? After you take the shot, what do you do? Take a disk out and put it into your computer or is there a USB wire and you download it to the computer?

You're right, I've a USB wire and I connect it with the computer, so that I can 'open' the pictures in a program. It is the same as when I open files of the 'own files' folder (I don't know if I use the correct words for it - I only know them in German). With this program I can intensify the colour or make the pic sharper of whatever. The act of taking a photo is easy, if you have the right cam for your idea of a pic. With my one (Olympus C-730 UZ) I can get 3cm close to the object and this is really useful with photographing flowers. VLG, Katrin

Thanks! 3 cm!!! That's amazing. I have a very good Nikon semi-automatic (because I like to control the aperture and shutter speed at times), but I can't get that close to an object even though I have a zoom lens. I am impressed and tempted. Temptation seems to be the bane of my pocket book this summer!

You won't last the year out without getting a digital camera - that's my prediction! Mine has made me appreciate my plants 1000 times more than I did before as you notice so many features on a photo that you'd never see with the naked eye. You need a macro lens facility which most decent cameras have these days to get good close ups. There are some excellent photographers on this site. I must say Kimono doesn't look like "an indescribable combination of green, silver and purple" like it says in the book!

So what you're really telling me is once I buy the camera I will be able to tell the difference even more so between those awfully close looking heuchera/heucherella species and then I'll just have to add more of them to my already growing collection!!! Thanks for the tip about getting a macro lens.

I think Katrin didn't pick the best leaf for her photo. Mine are a bit more interesting, though I'm afraid still a long way from being "an indescribable combination of green, silver and purple". Also a single leaf really doesn't do justice to the effect of the whole plant. Sorry I've been too lazy to photograph mine, and again it's too dark now. Mañana. Most good digital cameras these days have quite good built-in macro capabilities, so you don't normally need an extra macro lens. But if you want your socks blown off, have a look at Pixc's macro lens thread in the Nature forum.

I took a look at Pixc's pix! I am quite impressed. Wow! I've got to get out more often, digital cameras have sure come a long way. I can see the silver you were talking about in your leaves. Very nice. Something to tempt me next year

Gardenbug! I am wondering if in our climate any of the heucheras or heucherellas remain evergreen. Can you comment? Thanks

Hello: OK! Thought I'd admit to everyone, that I couldn't resist the Heritage Perennial sale at Niagara this last weekend. 85% off was too much to resist. So Heuchera Santa Rosa, Tiarella Jeepers Creepers, Heuchera Silver Shadows, Heuchera Ruby Veil join my collection as well as a few dozen other perennials. They look great!
