This vigorous bush has large furry leaves. Flowers were white and reminded me of mountain ash. The developing fruit shape should be a giveaway and I'm sure I should know what it is, but I can't place it.

Oh i used to have a Wayfaring Tree years ago, lovely if rather unassuming little shrub. The fruits ripen to black.

Alison, were the flowers really fragrant?
The leaves look a lot like my Viburnum X Juddii.

Wayfaring tree gets quite large here... to about 10' tall and around, in bush form. The flowers have some fragrance, but not an especially perfumey one. The flowers are quite different from those on V. x juddii, and the buds aren't pink.

The ones I photographed are in the 8-10 foot range, others looked as though they had been severely pruned so I got the impression they could be rather large and pushy. They certainly appear to like where they are growing.
