I honestly don't know the inner workings from the way it used to be done. I think that now, the new folks who join let Diane know to add their b'days in one of the help forums. She's been terrific about adding their names when it's brought to her attention.

hmm - I never told anyone when my birthday was - I just added it to my profile when I joined. Oh and by the way Pinkdamsel - you are on the list. Seil your right - you are not. And Im for a year too - I think 6 months is kind of short - sometimes people just get into other things and then once spring comes - they remember

How will this work as far as keeping the old (more than a year) b'days weeded out?

LOL! Let's keep these meaningless people on the rolls but take away their birthday! Where are the PC police that always hound me?? Mara I'm just poking fun. I'm sure this isn't the way you meant it. If no purging is to be made perhaps the display order of birthday buddies could be changed from register date to number of posts or last date logged in. Looking at todays birthdays Golden_Ca (Lynn) would be on top the list and easier to see at a glance. Either way I'm good. PS William wishes many happy returns!

Zack, to properly appreciate what I write, you have to add 6 hours to the time shown above the post. So, as you can see, that was written after midnight, when my brain, such as it is, had long since shut down. I just couldn't think of the right word to describe the names to which I couldn't associate any posts. I hope everyone understood what I meant. Keeping all the names but putting them in some kind of "order of importance" I think could turn hurtful. Better not. But seriously (?), there has always been a general consensus about who will be chosen from the list to have a birthday thread. So PC or no, as far as actual treatment goes, not all birthdays are equal.

Keep it simple and friendly. Do we really need to force people to register? It is nice if they do but it also just keeps the number growing without real performance added. Lurks (the word just seems so negative!) are as valuable as sign in members. There are readers and writers. As a matter of fact we could not exist without our No.1 "Lurk". Supporting the site is another matter which should be addressed up front. The present way is too vague. Making strict rules over birthday threads would kill the spirit. Cleaning in some way the birthday calendar is in one way a good idea, on the other hand a "mean" one. I still remember the great feeling when I found my name there upon a registration. I was a Gardenbuddy! Mistakes? They are part of the fun! Little word "sorry" goes long way both ways. EJ, thanks for your great work! The site is a treasure and trying to accommodate the wishes of 4605 members can be more than overwhelming. You are a Saint as it is! May I suggest to move this thread to "Suggestions and Comments" forum? Signed, Junior Member.

4605 Registered Gardenbuddies today Zack! I don't have anything to say about that! There are 4605 reg. buddies! And rough estimated, about 800 hundred of them are in the birthday Calender.....
Dear Lynn! You did nothing wrong. Of course it is very sad if we forget to congratulate a buddy! I think it is time to remove people from the birthday calender, and only from the birthday calender, who for example, haven't been visiting GardenBuddies since May 2003 and have been speechless since then...... But if I am the only person reacting, is okey with me. I just wanted to have an explanation. And I have got some sort of it now....

Ej has given me permission to edit the birthday calendar. I will not be deleting members who stop by once in a while and have a look, but will edit out those who joined some time ago and then never came back. Roelie does a great job of scanning the calendar every month and sending me a list of those she believes should be deleted. It will take me a few days to go through the calendar, and then I'll start a new thread asking if there are any requests to add a birthday to the calendar. I've added Seil and Richardh, a new member who requested his name be added. This is a good thing, and I realize I should have talked to Ej about this before now. Better now than never!

Indeed I sent every month a list to Diane of persons which have no information near their names and never come(came) back.So if you controll the names if you somebodies birthday is there you see it. I sent so the list of persons who give no information and never log in again to Diane to make it easier for her to controll and also easier for everybody for why should you open a person name who is not there. It only gives work . Also it gives a wrong indication how many persons are real members . Just what Mara said a year should be a good time and if so they can also register once again. If we should write them if they still want to be registered I think we will often get the answer oh I did not remember I was registered. Diane if you need help write me and tell me till what time you want the information

Thank you, Roelie. You've been a gardenbuddy treasure! The birthday calendar does not affect a gardenbuddies membership status, so removing a name does not affect the membership numbers. No worries there. November is done, and the calendar looks decidedly different. Once I've done the 12 months, I'll go through the names again. Roelie checks the names, too, at the beginning of each month, and I'm sure if there are any that need to be edited we'll spot them.
