Lynn, Susan's b'day is in March...the 27th...so, buddy, you didn't miss it after all. :) P.S. You can click on the names on the b'day calendar if you're not sure it's the right person.

I think it is time to remove people from the birthday calender who haven't been visiting GardenBuddies for years! I can't imagine why on earth are they still on the list?

Participating/active Susy Q? Heather Rhoades aka Suzy Q visited GardenBuddies for the first time May 23, 2006, and haven't been seen here since the May 24th, 2006. Not a visit in 1,5 year! How very participating/active is that? I find it very confusing finding a lot of so called GardenBuddies in the Birthday Calender!!!!! Tanya! You wrote: You can click on the names on the b'day calendar if you're not sure it's the right person. I did that! And that's why I'm asking.......... How many people in the Birthday Calender are active?

First, you'd have to have a definitive cut-off time (six months?) to be considered inactive. No one has considered this yet. I wouldn't mind getting rid of all those extra names on the calendar either. Folks always have the option of re-registering if circumstances find them wanting to return to GBs. This is a matter to be brought to E.J.'s attention and see how others feel. I'm sure no one cares if we lose those names that are here for no reason.

That's a very good proposal Tanya! Start a new thread and ask. After all, this isn't the first time we have birthday wishes sent to a person not active here or... And what criteria are there, how do we know when to post or not? Active or not active? Where do we draw the line? Contributing/supporting or not? I really look forward to hear other GardenBuddies' opinions.

I'm all for this! Our policy had been to enter every new member on the calendar. Now new members have to request being added. I believe it would be a great idea to 'clean up' the calendar. I'm assuming that the criteria would be that he/she had not been to the web site for a goodly amount of time, with very few postings recorded on their profile page. Lets put it to Ej, and then I will make it so!

Diane and Tanya! Maybe you think that I'm overreacting a bit, but I got a mail from a another GardenBuddy about sending a Birthday Card to a GB, yes one of the GB's (Susy's)named in this thread...... It is important to know that it can be misunderstandings and sending cards to the wrong person if the Birthday Calender is not up to date..... In this case I know the person who sent the card and the person who received it will understand but it isn't always so.

I will direct E.J. to this thread then. I would say a cut-off time of 6 mos. It's not a big deal to re-register if someone wants to. Other GBs! Your input please! I'd like to know if you think 6 mos. is long enough or too long. See you in the suggestions and comments forum, buddies. (please. :))

I'm active. Can I be added to the calendar too, please. I don't know about 6 mos., maybe a year would be safer. If you haven't posted anything in a year I doubt you're coming back and like you said, Tanya, they can re-register easily enough if they want to. Lurkers would need to be warned that they need to post something once in a while or they'll be dropped. I don't know about supporting members. That may be trickier.

Tanya/Ingmarie the only drawback (if you consider this a drawback, I don't) to purging inactive Buddies is that it also lowers our buddy count (right now at 4602 Garden Buddies)

Tanya, can they just go into their own profile and add (update) their birthday that way - or does it not work that way anymore.

Well, we'll see what Mr. E.J. has to say, Zack. He may opt to leave it as is.

I'm not sure I understand. Is this about removing names from the birthday calendar, or about "unregistering" people who aren't active? If it's the first, I'm for it. The calendar is confusing with so many "meaningless" names that sometimes you miss the active ones in between. I also think a year might be better than 6 months. There are many long-standing Buddies who are absent for many months, but still come back regularly. If the idea is to purge them from GBs altogether so they have to re-register to post, then I'm not for that.
