Hello all. I am new here but I wanted to share my photos of our trip that we took in March of 08. It was wickedly cold there at least to me as I live in Southeast Texas and it is almost tropical here. My Dh is from Manchester and we went to visit family. We had Twin DD and we all went to introduce them to the family. We had some fairly nice days as England goes, it snowed a few times while we were there and of course rained in the end we got to go out and see some of the spectacular scenery there. We went to Wales the city was called Llandudno, it was built in the 12th century by King James. This is a view on entering the city. This is a closer veiw of the Castle from outside the walls.
This a birds eye view from the castle wall at the surrounding countryside.
A view of the Harbor.
A garden that I seen from the Castle wall.
Hope everyone enjoys the pics.

Hello Kniphofia, I really liked Manchester when I was there I was able to live there for a year before we decided to come back to the states. I fell in love with how green and pretty England is. The weather isn't always good but you can't have it all. Are you from England then? Or did you just visit? Talk to you soon. Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,I was born in Machester and now live about 20 miles away now to the North having moved around a bit in the past. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and the visit to N Wales was good because it is so lovely.I can only say that to us February was very mild,it never really gets cold it just rains all the time. This makes it a great area for growing plants that like soggy conditions. My son lives in Houston and starts shivering the moment he steps of the plane when he comes to visit,we just laugh at him.

Tony, are you in Derbyshire in the Peaks District? If so, maybe we could have a cup of tea somewhere when I visit Marple Bridge in Sept. I would like to meet some of my Buddies while I'm there, if possible.

Hi there Tony, My DH was also born in Manchester. He immigrated to the USA in 01. I was privileged to live in England for 1 yr and I did really enjoyed it, all though I have to admit I lived in a sweater all summer while I was there....lol. DH didn't understand until he moved here and thinned his blood a bit to our hot and humid climate on why I always felt frozen there. We sure did shiver when we came over in March. I was double dressed the whole time that I was there....lol. Rebecca

Yes Rebecca I was born in England and lived in Maine for 10 years. I came home last fall. I haven't lived in Northumberland for 23 years and realise how much I've missed it. Everyone here complains about the weather :) I love it! The other day one of my sisters was complaining about a "winter wind" - I thought it was delightfully fresh! And the rain is why we have that 'green and pleasant land'. Sue

Oh. Now I know nobody loves a smart arse, but I didnt think Llandudno had a castle. The pic looks a lot like the entry to Conwy which does have a splendid old castle, and is the town right next door to Llandudno. OK, start throwing the rocks (LOL) LoveinLife. I think Tony is in Lancashire; a little bit north of Marple Bridge. Speaking of which, when ARE you coming over here again ? 'Er Indoors is looking forward to meeting you again. Just stop all that flirting with Tony!!

Sue, It is always nice to go home. I loved England as well, except for the prices of things that is the only thing that puts me off over there. What I love most about England is the amount of public plantings that are every where. I lived in the village of Northenden, and they had the most wonderful flower baskets planted all up and down the street hanging from the lamp posts and planted in boxes on the Pub windows. I definitely loved all the plant nurseries and little shops that were over flowing with flowers and annuals, cut flowers everywhere. I do miss the climate in the summer as so many of the flowers I love really struggle to live here in my zone. I was really amazed on the size of their Dahlias, loved the Peonies, and I seen one Butterfly Bushes flower spikes that were well over 12 inches long and four inches around at the base. Truly a beautiful place. We really did have a wonderful time in Wales and England while we were there I just wished that we could of come during warmer months. I'm Bad the castle was in Conwy not Llandudno. Rebecca
