Portage Glacier, the most visited attraction in Alaska. Portage Lake & glaciers this lake is over 600 feet deep! The water is gray like it looks. what happens is the weight of the glaciers crush the rock into dust and when they melt in the warm weather the water runs from underneath. This dust causes the water to turn gray. More Glaciers. We were there last year and are planning on returning next summer. We're extending our stay to include a charter out of Anchorage into either Nome or Barrow.... haven't decided yet. I can't wait!
