I leave for Chile on the morning of the 4th January staying overnight in London then flying via Madrid and Santiago to Punta Arenas. Arrive there on the evening of the 6th,a bit of a long trip, taking five flights. The plan is then to then move to the Torres del Paine National Park for a few days looking at the mountains and glaciers with hopefully lots of flowers and wildlife (and good weather). Then back to P. Arenas to see the penguins. Tuesday 16th jan fly back to Santiago and drive South to Talca to visit Lake Maule, then to Cusico for the Rio Teno valley. Both of these areas in the wine growing region so hopefully lots of wonderful red wine each evening to round of the day.Drive up and finish the last two days just North of Santiago. These last three areas for flowers. Home leaving on the 21st.

Yes have a wonderful trip Tony! If you get stuck and need some help, post here, and I will ask my friends in Santiago (we import from a very large copper tube producer) to give some help or tips. From the photos of a book they presented us you will love the country.

I think it will be on my return because I will not have any way of downloading my photos or reducing them even if I can get on the internet. At the moment I am wondering if I will actually be able to text home on my mobile phone. I am now feeling the pressure to actually produce some pictures.

No pressure intended, Tony. Just enjoy the trip. But if you do take pictures, it's fun to know that there will be plenty of avid eyes waiting to see them. I remember when Greg took a trip to China and thought that he wouldn't be posting pictures until he returned, but somehow managed to get some up before that.

Tony the people we deal with in Chile are very computer literate. Notebooks accompany them everywhere. I think you may find you will be able to pop in and at least say hello. Please don't feel pressure, you always shoot very nice shots of your vacation. Enjoy!

I am back from Chile where I had a fantastic time.Everthing went well and it all far exceeded my expectations. The mountains ,wildlife and birds in the south were wonderful and when I went up north a hundred miles south of Santiago and then a bit north the flowers were at their best. I returned home to chaos in the garden after the 'great storm'. 8 fence panels gone, two frames blown away ,the side of one greenhouse destroyed and over 25 panes of glass missing from the others. Mrs W consulted a friend as to whether the plants would die and should she go out and try and tidy up. His advice was that I would probably prefer the plants to be dead and her alive when I got home, rather than the other way round. A good assessment of the situation.in the event no damage was done that cannot be sorted out. I am thinking of writing an article on either the aesthetic benefits of shards of glass as a top dressing or in the spring the benefits of plant division by falling glass. A first picture.

A happy couple. As I am sure you and your DW are. I'm looking forward to more pictures from Chile - and perhaps one or the other of your interesting essays in our new "Articles" magazine :-)

Welcome back Tony! Sorry to hear that you came back to all that mess! Either article would be nice, but an article on Chile would be too.

Adorable photo, Tony. I'm so sorry about the mess the storm wrecked on your garden and home - glad though that DW followed her friend's advice :)
