We are leaving next week for Sedona. I hear that it is a photographer's heaven. Have any of you GB's been there? Are there any places that are "must see's"? I am fascinated with the red rock formations and hope to bring home lots of pictures. I know we aren't going in prime season, so I'm hoping that the snakes are lying dormant. ewwwwwwwwweh! (grin!)

It is a beautiful place, AJ. We've been there several times and the highland was always taking one of the jeep tours that gets you up close and personal with the red rocks :) Horseback riding is also a wonderful way to enjoy the scenery. We never stayed there but would make it a day trip from Scottsdale.

Thanks for the pictures Kathleen! I can hardly wait! Susan, we were considering doing the jeep tours but you never know what they will show you so we planned on checking it out more fully when we get there. It's good to know that you were happy with your tour. Thanks. One week to go!

Oops, I meant to say 'high point'. We took the Pink Jeep Tour and also one other and they have totally different 'territories'. I'm sure at this time of year you won't have any trouble booking. We never did even at peak season over Easter vacation.

You will love it, Aleita. I've been there...a couple of times. It is a beautiful place for sure. The second time I went in hopes of photographing some hummingbirds in nearby Ramsey Canyon, if memory serves me correctly. Sadly, there was no place to park. I saw my first rattlesnake in the 'wild' in AZ. I've never been able to make up my mind which state I like the best, AZ or NM. Kath, your pics are beautiful.

Pretty, Donna! There are also some great rug shops too. Unfortunately, as I recall, they roll up the sidewalks pretty early in Sedona so you'd better shop early.

Thanks ladies. I have a shopping trip planned so will keep it in mind to do it in daylight hours! Looks like I mayhave to plan and extra shopping day. LOL We hope to get in a lot of sightseeing and picture-taking. I'm not much of a souvenir hound but I do like crafts and craftsmanship. 6 days to go.

Have been to Sedona hundreds of times dating back from the early 60's. Have watched all the changes and growth over the years, but still an awesome place to visit and vacations. It is an artist colony. Many things to see and do and fine dining. Jeep rides, helicopter rides, hot air ballooning, glorious hiking trails. If you're driving be sure to take a scenic ride through Oak Creek Canyon and Slide rock. The opposite direction is Red Rock State Park, Tuzigoot National Monument, Jerome (old mining town up in the hills, Camp Verde, Montezuma Castle National Monument. Also the Chapel of the Holy Cross off Chapel Rd and hwy 179. Two side trips we've always enjoyed was Cameron and Tuba City (Indian Reservations) north of Flagstaff off hwy. 17. If your timing is right, Tuba City has their monthly Indian pawn auction January 17th at the Tuba City Trading Post. Terrific buys! Take a drive up Airport Rd. to the airport. Terrific views and glorious hiking trails. A lovely hotel at the top "Sky Ranch Lodge" with lush landscaping. Cottages on the rim are fabulous because of the views of the rock formations and city view. There is an old dumpy rustic looking bar on hwy 89 going south (don't remember the name of it). Jane Russell owned and operated it for years and was able to see her there waiting on customers years ago. The bar now has new owners, but they serve the best home made tacos and burritos. Be sure your camera is always ready because the scenery is SPECTACULAR during every phase of the day. HAVE A GREAT VACATION!

Hello everyone. Well we're back from Sedona. What a beautiful and unique place it is. We did a lot of touring but not much hiking. Unfortunately it snowed and left the rocks fairly slippery. I just didn't want to chance it. But I did manage to get a few photos that I'm really pleased with and hope to get them posted one of these days. We took a vortex tour which was very interesting and informative. Our guide was wonderful and gave us a great talk on the history of Sedona and talked of all the different famous people who have made Sedona their home over the years. We also took a Jeep tour to some ancient ruins, made it to the Grand Canyon. Totally awesome! Also got to Montezuma Castle & Well and to Jerome. Ate way too much! The food there was great and a big variety of tastes and choices. Fell in love with a Strawberry Vinagrette salad dressing in one of the restaurants and am trying to duplicate it here at home. Yum-yum!
