Getting away from the snow and cold of our winters in Canada to visit the warmer climes of southern Europe has been a longtime dream in the making. It finally came true this month with a trip to Italy. But arriving in neighboring Nice, France there was no need to rush things. Some "unwind" time was called for along Nice's famous Promende des Anglais.
And just back from the sea, the Nice flower market offered some soothing sights as well.
The first leg of the Italian visit certainly involved using legs...we walked from village to village along the north eastern coast where no cars are allowed into the villages.
And those weary feet require some rest and recovery in a relaxing setting :-)
Hopping on a train takes us to view the famous leaning tower of Pisa. Although an interesting attraction to see, the throngs of tourists somehow make you want to cut the visit short and head for the hills :-)
So that's exactly what we did...onto another train and off to the rolling hills of southern Tuscany where blossoms are already out.
Morning breakfast outdoors in February sure beats snowblowing the roads back home.
And evening sunsets are pretty easy to take as well.
Some nearby hotsprings(37 degrees celsius) are hard to pass up.A minimum of two visits were called for.
Alas we must move on to visit the many museums and cultural attractions of Florence...even a two-hour wait in the line-up for the major art exhibits was worth it.
Although we weren't allowed cameras, we did get to see David standing tall (5 metres) in his famous pose:-) The final part of the visit to Italy took us to the enchanting and ancient city of Venice. One can spend days just wandering around the hundreds of interconnected "islands"...each time you get lost in the maze of narrow sidewalks(no streets of course!) and find some new attraction or historical building dating back hundreds and hundreds of years.
But all good trips must come to an end...time to get on those silver wings and head home across the Alps.
