last Sunday morning (torrential rain was forecast for the afternoon-and it did)we went to visit this garden which is about 25 miles North of us in the Lune valley. It was mainly built between 1805-1810 and is one of the homes of Arabella Lennox-Boyd who is a garden designer.it is only open a few times a year for charity. We had been told it was one of the finest in the North of England and that has to be true. All of Lancashire is not covered in dark satanic mills. Here are a few pictures the house and lake
rosa banksii lutea on the house wall
english bluebells in the woods
a rhododendron on the rhododendron hillside
davidia involucrata in the same area

What lovely shots, Tony. I like them all but who could resist that whole hillside of bluebells?!

Surely this is one of the loveliest places in England. The bluebells in the woods-- is Heaven!

No it is a private garden which is only open on odd weekends. We were fortunate as I was speaking to a friend the night before and he told us it was open the following day so we rushed of there. here is a link which tells more about it. http://www.arabellalennoxboyd.com/gresgarth/
