I had expected to visit N. Greece going on the 20 October but having checked in and with my case in the hall flying at lunchtime that morning my mother died.Impecable timing as ever. I got away on the 9 November but it was too late for the north so I went to the Pelopennese instead. It was still good with lots of cyclamen and I also visited a few historic places. They all are from the period around 1500 The rock at Monemvasia connected to the mainland by a causeway
The church complex in the village which was started around 1100
The churches at Mystras
One of the paintings
The entrance to Methonia castle on the sea side
Inside the Venetian cathedral in Methoni castle showing the Rood screen
Closeup of one of the paintings on the screen

Sorry to hear about our Mother also Tony. I'm glad you were able to get away finally. As always, your pictures are a treat. Thanks to you, we get to take trips around the world through your photos. Will you be posting photos of the cyclamen you saw while on holiday (I hope, I hope)?

Terry and Susan thanks for your thoughts. My mother had a long and latterley a happy life and she had become very frail.A couple of weeks before she died she had a chat with my sister and I and told us her time had come and she had decided to go.That sums us up as a family, we were with her at the end,no pain and no tears. I have put some pics in the cyclamen forum

A few more pictures had to take this first one, this is what you get at the airport for £7 ($14us) in rip off Britain as a meal.Total rubbish.Note the plastic cutlery.I think this is to stop us killing ourselves in disgust.
Nice church at one of the crocus sites. They are in the field beside it
View from my hotel balcony at Pyrgos in the evening whilst having a metaxa or two or three!
Chair in the Venetian cathedral at Koroni
Rainbow over Galixidi one of the most perfect villages in Greece. Mostley owned by rich Athenians as weekend houses.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, Tony.
That piece of fish would be more than adequate for killing yourself with; either by eating it, or by inserting it into yourself :-) Where did you fly from, Tony? Manchester, Birmingham, Stansted...?

Tim I flew having eaten the fish from Manchester, stayed overnight at Heathrow and flew on to Athens the next day all with British Airways. They were superb when I had to cancel the day my mother died and they gave me a full refund on the whole trip,no insurance claims necessary. I know they get a lot of stick but they are my favorite airline and I always fly with them if I can. I was too late for most of the crocus and there was not much else but the cyclamen were still wonderful.
