My 'Beacon Rosa' standard wintered over beautifully and I've been giving her some sunshine in the day and tucking it into the garage for the below freezing nights here still. The new growth is looking really great and I've been pinching religiously so it has branched out nicely. I didn't root prune or re-pot and I was wondering if I should do it now or wait until next year??? The new growth looks pretty vigorous so I was wondering if I should leave it for this year.

Hi Deanne, Well done you , it's looking great. Yes, as it's full of lovely new growth and looking very healthy, I would leave the pruning of the roots until late Autumn now. Do it when you prune the top back, just before setting it away for the winter, then you can plant it back into the same size pot. Just feed it regularly during this growing season and it should be fine - Kath

I thought it would be fun to post an updated photo of this standard. I took this picture yesterday and I'm so pleased with how this is coming along. I'm hoping I can successfully winter it over again and keep it going.

Sincere congratulations again Deanne, it's BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOtiful, and you've 'pinched-it-back- correctly to give it that marvellous 'head'. I'm sure you'll have success again with overwintering

Thanks Kath and Carolyn! Kath, I'm so pleased you 'stopped by'. I can't thank you enough for your help and advice with my fuchsias. I wouldn't have been able to have this lovely standard without your generous sharing of information.

Hi all, I thought it would be such fun to post another photograph of this same standard a year later. It has continued to gain size and beauty with every year.

Oooooooooooooooooooooh Deanne that is one boooooooootiful standard. I can see that earlier in the year you did a lot of 'pinching' of the growing tips to get such a magnificient 'head' and what an abundance of flowers too. 10 out of 10, 1st prize for you

Hi Kath! Thanks so very much! I was hoping you'd see this post. You do realize that this is all about your help and advice? If you hadn't given me so much information about wintering over these beauties I'd never have pursued growing a standard from a cutting. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Alla, If you want to find any particular fuchsias in England go to 'Find that Fuchsia' http://www.findthatfuchsia.info/ On the list on the left side of the homepage you will see 'listings', one of which is 'Fuchsias in the UK. There are 11,000 on this site. Further down the list is 'Suppliers' it will tell you if they have mail order facilities or not. Happy Hunting

Deanne is it too early for a 2008 photo of this? Did you start with a small standard or train a plant?
