One of my work colleagues has a couple of fuchsias in baskets outside and he'd like to try and keep them through the winter. What's the best way of doing this?

Fuschias need a period of dormancy during the winter. If they have an unheated garage that does not freeze then that would be perfect. Just keep the soil damp, minimal pruning to take out dead and skinny branches. Once spring arrives, new growth will dictate where to prune then.
