I love fuchsias, so much, that I continue to buy them, and kill them, I'm on like my 6th one, And their not cheap! The pots with the dead bodies just kill me. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING WRONG! the tag says full sun, i put it in full sun, and it roasted. then i tried shadier spots, still roasting. i currently have a poor looking specimen hiding under my patio. I see the photo's of yards full of them. why can't i keep even a little flower basket going? Is it easier to grow a hardy variety in the soil?

Gokago, Not in Texas! Oh that sun is too much for them. I live in a part of CA that gets in the upper 80's to mid 90's in the summer. The fuchsia's only get morning sun. You will need to water them a little more when it's really hot. I will even go out there and give them a gentle spray on the leaves, they seem to really like it. Also they love Fish Emulsion very stinky but organic and they love it.

Try placing a pan under it with gravel and keep that wet. They love humidity. Misting helps. You are at a latitude that make the sun very intense. I should have light but no direct sun except very early morning and late afternoon

Gokago, I'm a fuchsia killer, too, and also in Texas but zone 9! Last spring I got a hanging basket full of huge fuchsia/dark purple blooms and placed it on the patio; didn't even last two weeks. Yes, I've gotten some from HD (they should be arrested for selling them here) and ordered some through the mail...alas, all passed away. I'm not sure how many but I think I've killed more than you:) It's so sad...why I get so tempted by them but there's hope for me; this year I haven't even try to seek them out.

Yes Gokago and Inthegarden, Texas is not the ideal place to grow fuchsias. Definitely not in full sun, try a shady well ventilated position, with ordinary pots try 'double-potting' them as well. Place the pot that the fuchsia is planted in, into a larger pot. In the space between the two pots fill with soil, keep this soil wet. This helps to keep the roots cool, otherwise the roots will get scorched and die from the heat produced from the sun constantly shining on the planted pot, especially if it's made of plastic.
