Good to see you back Deanne, I've missed you! That fuchsia is impressive! I bought one this year and I guess our heat got to it. Not a bloom on it now. I was so disappointed, after having seen how beautiful yours look.

Hello Deanne such a beautiful fuchsia Beacon Rosa had her many yrs ago but alas did not survive overwintering.

Sometimes depending on temps my fuchsias survive.

Fuchsias are not expensive to buy sometimes I find it better just to buy fresh new plants as I do not have heat in my greenhouse at all.

It's very attractive. What do you do with it in the winter?

Arlene & Dave, I followed Kath's instructions for overwintering a couple years ago. I didn't believe it could work but it does. They are quite tolerant of most everything except overwatering. Before the first frost I cut them back by 2/3'rds, strip all the leaves off them then put them in a cool,(I think about 45F to 48F degrees is best but mine is a bit warmer than that and averages around 54F) dark corner of the basement for the winter. In the spring I root prune them and pot them up in fresh potting soil and voila! fantastic HUGE fuchsia. I can't find anything remotely like this or this size anywhere around here and it is a treat to have such mature specimens to grace the borders. I have quite a few now just planted out in the gardens and I dig them out, root prune, etc. set them into new, smallish pots for the winter and proceed as above. I also do tons of cuttings and they are as easy to propagate as coleus. I've become an addict! LOL.

Thanks for the very helpful info,Deanne! I have limited success over wintering my fuchsias and would love to see a beautiful display in my garden like yours.

Kath, thanks so much! I would not have this beauty except for your expert advice. I've truly become addicted to these wonderful plants.

Have you ever grown those Shadow Dancer series minis? I have one called Peggy that is the most prolific bloomer I've ever seen. It's amazing and never quits. The other two I have in the series, Betty and Marcy bloom then rest and do it in cycles but the Peggy just does not quit.

Oh my Deanne, another beauty and such wonderful clusters of flowers too.

No I hadn't heard of these Shadow Dancer fuchsias, been searching on the Internet and see that they are available here in the UK from several nurseries, so have put them on my 'wish-list' for 2007

Oh Kath, I'm so pleased you are going to be looking for this one. I've been thinking of you as this season has progressed with this fuchsia. It has really terrific sturdy growth and I believe it would make a fantastic bonsai. As I said, Peggy is the best of the series that I've tried and has the best and more vigorous growth. It has not stopped blooming since I got it in March.
