and I would like to show you some pictures of our show. Before we started the tv. came for an item of 2 1/2 minute, was busy 2 1/2 hour! The show was opened by giving a new fuchsia his name: Arie Ribbers.
Parts of the show. On some of the pictures you can see castle De Slangenburg, in the park of that castle the show has been held - a beautiful place to be!
Part of our contribution of the show.

Results of the competition-part of the show.
More pictures of the show:
Me taking care of some of the fuchsia's.
Full of colour from the flowers, but we had a heatwave for abt. five weeks and you can see that the grass is not green in the park, but brown. But it will be ok. again soon, for we now have more rain than we asked for! Gerda

Hi Perki, These photos are very beautiful. It is so nice to see the plants look so healthy and showy. I wrote you a personal message today; but I think I sent it to the wrong e-mail address. I will try again later. Beverly SW Missouri-USA

A wonderful setting for a fuchsia show Gerda. Many years ago I took a group of fuchsia-folk to Zeist to a similar show and in 2002 first to Floriade and then on to Leerbroek to a fuchsia show, as you can imagine we all had a great time. 2002-Leerbroek

The show in Zeist was of course bigger than our show - it was from fuchsia-friends all over the country - this was only our 'regio' as we call it. But, what I never knew when I was writing the name-cards for the show, there was a fuchsia "Kath van Hanegem", I liked it, but did not know who it was named after, until I read your profile, FBonsailady - I wish to know the story behind this.... Hi again Gerda, This was presented to me in 1998 by my good friends Howard Carless (hybridizer) and Edwin Goulding mainly for promoting the fuchsia in our area here. It is also registered in the NKVF Cultivarlijst, as Howard and I are both members of NKVF we thought it would be a nice jester to register with same as Fuchsia Kath van Hanegem is a seedling from Purper Klokje I believe the first nursery to have it in the Netherlands was Spek's in Heerde.

Thanks for your reaction - it's always nice to know, where a name comes from! It is a beautiful fuchsia that has gotten your name! Gerda

Hi Deanne, Yes 'Fame at last' , 1. Kath van Hanegem grown as a young bonsai, will be much better in 10 years time
2. Grown as a garden plant. It is hardy in zone 8, although slow to 'come-back' does thrive best in a position with pm shade
3. Grown as a pot plant
4. Another one called 'Katjan' first 3 letters of my first name plus the name of our son Jan Not a hardy fuchsia, must have winter protection. The parents were Lyciodes/Magellanica Gerda

Oh Kath!!! I just love your fuchsia and have to look for it. I don't know if it is available here. It's lovely and of course your bonsai are out of this world! Your Katjan bonsai is simply wonderful. I must try my hand at doing some bonsai now that I've had some success with the standards. I have a Golden Marenka that has developed huge woody growth at the base in one season and I'm thinking it would be a good candidate for a bonsai. I'm thinking I'm going to give it a good pruning in the fall, saving that gnarly growth at the soil line, and see what I can come up with. I'll take cuttings before I go at it with my pruners so I won't lose it. Nothing ventured nothing gainned as they say.

what a lovely fuchsai that has your name kath gerda, that show was that in belgium (Dilsen i think) can that be? I went to see that show but i coulden't find the location But thanks for posting some pictures, i really wanted to be there that day Maybe an other time Now I'm going to a hard time, because I'm going to study at the university and I have to leave all my plants at home so I don't know if they will survive. And I just got some nice new fuchsias (maybe i'll take them with me, but then just the ones I really don't want to lose) Maarten

This show was in Doetinchem - if you click on the link (I think it is in the sixth or seventh part of this thread) you can see the castle Slangenburg, some kilometers outside Doetinchem, in the Achterhoek, if you know a bit of Nederland. I hope that your fuchsia's will survive your study! Gerda
