In my garden I found these two forms of the flowers of fuchsia J.C.Orange First picture is how J.C.Orange is the whole season, the second picture shows a different flower, which I think happen most at the end of the season...
Well, October is coming, so: end of the season...

As the sun gets lower in the sky, I see several that change size, sorm and color intensity. Both Lord Byron and Winston Churchill has already began going dormant with night temps about 45 - 50. Many of the soft pinks are washed out, yet many of the hardies are putting on a big final show. Two of the encliandras are full and lush while Ocean Mist is waning. Was a grand showing this summer!

That is interesting how the flower changes shape. I've not noticed anything like that here. Since the weather cooled off my Beacon, Lena and Beacon Rosas are absolutely smothered with flowers though. It is a shame I'm going to have to take them in and cut them all off in the next couple weeks. Time to put them all 'to bed' for the winter.

There you are right, Deanne - the fuchsia's are sometimes rather full in flower and still have buds, when it is time for them to go for the winter-sleep - I hate it to cut them back then, but if I should not do it "next year no fuchsia", I keep telling myself... In normal years I have to do the make-ready-for-winter the third week of October, but this year I think it must be earlier, if I see the signs (coulouring of the trees) - it's been a hot/cold/wet/dry summer here in Holland - all the extreme things were there. But: in five months time we can start the new season!! Gerda

Not quitw ready to give up yet. Our first frost date isn't for another month. I know it will fly by, but I will enjoy them while I can.

Our first frost date is Sept. 21 so I'm watching the weather like a hawk! LOL I just can't bring myself to chop them all down yet while they still are providing so much color and the weather is supposed to stay above 44 for another week or so. It will probably be like last year for me and I'll be running around in a couple weeks dragging everything in at the last minute.
