Penstemons are hard to come by here. So many of them aren't hardy, and most of the hardy ones offered in nurseries aren't very showy. This is an example: it's small and sprawly.
The big one everyone has is Husker's Red. But I think there are many other attractive ones available in America that are hardy at least to zone 6. Aren't there?

Haven't seen that one before Mara. I was a bit disappointed with Huskar's Red, doesn't perform in my garden like the others do. If you go down the Forum List to 07-16-03 you can see the ones that I grow here in the UK. All are hardy here, I know I'm a zone higher than yourself, but I never cut down the previous years growth until the following April/May when all risk of frost has gone, seems to help them survive better.

Kath, thanks for the link. It was very interesting to read. It seems the situation in America isn't so very different from here. I had P. digitalis a few years ago. It certainly is hardy enough, but I didn't find it particularly attractive, so chucked it out. I think I will see about getting Osprey and Sour Grapes and just try my luck. Marie, last year you wrote you had planted some new penstemon. How have they come along?
