This penstemon from Southeastern US is unusual because it prefers part shade to shade. I planted it last year where it didn't do much. It sort of went semi dormant this winter and is now strutting it's stuff! It's not quite as showy as the regular garden variety, but makes a charming woodland plant. I've seen the hummers at it too.
