I have already removed the sick plant, I am trying to get it to come back tho, we will see. Can you guys look at these pics and tell me what you think. The first shot is the whole plant http://community.webshots.com/photo/58024089/84949733KUEhlH here is a close-up
I dug it up, cut it back and put it in the pot the new penstemon came from. I bought my other Penstemon at the same time from the same place and it's doing fantastic, it big and lush. Here is my new Penstemon, one with small leaves instead of the large ones the other one has, it's called 'Garnet' http://community.webshots.com/photo/58024089/84950604SJNzIJ

Humm My first thought was too much water. Then I thought of some sort of fungus. I would cut it all the way back to healthy tissue. If there is none. Cut all the way back and see what happens. Have you tries to dig it up to examine the condition of the root ball? That may provide some clues. Check this http://www.caes.state.ct.us/PlantPestHandbookFiles/pphP/pphpens.htm

I dug it up and put it in another pot, since the pot was smaller then the original one I did have to remove quite a bit of soil and I exposed some larger roots I hope this doesn't kill it. I didn't look at the root ball tho, I am a pretty novice gardner so I was afraid to remove more soil. I will cut it back more as you have suggested. I know there is some new fresh growth at the bottom. Should I spray it with a fungicide (sp) just to be safe?
