Hi Folks

I've just got an allotment and I'm busy cleaning it as it's been derelict for a few years. My daughter wants a piece for growing herbs. Now I know nothing about herbs so any information will be greatly appreciated. I had thought of letting her use a 4 ft X 8 ft deep bed, does that seem big enough or is it too small?

Eagle, you can grow herbs in a windowbox if you want to.
The most important decision to make is which herbs she would like to use. Especially when space is limited, there is not much point wasting it on stuff you will never cook with.
I would suggest parsley, maybe a small sage or rosemary, chives, oregano, thyme, dill, and possibly coriander for starters, which would give a good range of flavours. Keep the sage and rosemary trimmed, or they will quickly take up space.
Mint is great stuff, but will invade and take over the universe. I suggest growing it in a container.
Good luck with the allotment!
