I have seen several really outstanding pictures of this plant - Kaveh and David in Michigan (I think) have posted. So...I got a plant last fall which I killed over the winter. So... I got another plant this spring and planted it in the protected raised bed beside my greenhouse (with extra drainage for thyme, lavender and oriental poppies, too, which are all doing fine) in morning to early afternoon sun. It is just not growing very well. Is there something else it requires? More shade in our heat and humidity, maybe?

Cathy, it sounds like a perfect site for this, and matches almost exactly what I have (raised bed, good drainage, rosemary behind it, morning and early PM sun). I have some left behind in a much shadier spot, and it is a bit leggier but doing just as well. Perhaps the humidity is the key difference or the stronger southern sun. In what way is it not growing well? Has it started "nodding" yet? Is it sparse? Is the soil too rich?

Here's last summer's:

Amazingly, it is looking better. I'm wondering if it was the severe heat that hit our area about the time I posted my query. We'd had a remarkably mild/wet and long spring to that point - then the heat slammed in with fairly long periods of dry between. Lots of plants reacted badly...but many are beginning to recover, including the oregano 'Kent Beauty'. I'll take a picture and post in a bit.

Here's a picture today. There is some really nice new growth so I think it may be fine.

Cath, it's looking just fine! What's that to the right?

David, its a thyme - wooly, I think. These are plants from cuttings I took last fall. I've had the original plant a couple of years.
