I am new here and need help indentifying a flowering bush I received from my mother's funeral last week. It is so pretty, but I don't have a green thumb and don't know what it is or how to care for it! Any help???
Thanks,
Teresa in NC

Ok, I think it is a Hydrangea. Any ideas on how to care for it in my area? Goldsboro, NC.
Thanks!

Hi. I am sorry about your Mom. How nice that you will plant a keepsake from her service. Your "gardening zone" is Zone 8 and I believe hydrangeas do well in Zones 6-9 (or even more zones) so you should be fine. There are many types of hydrangeas and they vary by both color and shape of their blooms as well as the shape of their foliage. You will want to find a spot in your garden that gives your plant plenty of space and is in sun or partial shade. I don't know if you are advanced in gardening so sorry if this sounds too basic but...you would plant it outside after digging a hole that is twice as wide as the plant. You could add some compost but mostly just backfill the hole with the same soil you dug, planting it at the same depth it was in the container. Here is an article about hydrangeas: http://www.usna.usda.gov/Gardens/faqs/hydrangeafaq2.html
PS - you posted in the "test post" section so I'm not sure if you got responses elsewhere.

Cheers.
