Like many gardeners I am sure, I also love Daylily's because: No. 1 they need minimal care. No. 2 they are all beautiful. No. 3 they can stay in the ground over the winter (in our zone 5 we have to dig many bulbs out, like Cana's). But what I like most is the surprise they hold every morning when I go out in the Garden in June; another new face greets me and my heart takes a skip when I first see them. Really. I have never collected seed from the Daylily's since I don't have enough workable space to put them all and because I read somewhere that raising them from seed harvested from ones own blooms will not produce the same coloration's. Do you find that too, everyone? I order mine direct from the Province of Quebec each year. They are expensive but they are large, healthy corms with 6 " of leaves on it already. I receive the plants end of June and they come direct from the suppliers own garden. Here is my favorite Hemerocalles: Oops, can't do. Used first icon left for resizing but find that there is already a picture in the frame? What do I do to get that out? I clicked on browse and choose the picture URL, then pic the size 600X600 . By the time I get to Upload your photo my URL is gone, the space before 'browse' is empty. What am I doing wrong? I went to the site of my photo and downsized it there and tried anew but now I have a red cross in the Image Re sizer box ??? Afraid I am getting in deeper and deeper. Help! Please.

Gerlinde I can't agree with you more. I love the way you said that. As for your pictures I am not an expert on the resizer. I have rarely used it. I have large images and resizer has difficulty with them. I resize in Photoshop just for Garden Buddies(preserving my original) and then I can post with the paper clip icon. Perhaps someone else will be more helpful.

Thank you Arlene, yes I used to resize with Photo Shop in years gone by but did not have to when in my previous garden site. I also found that it distorts the original picture when you resize it. Have not found out yet how to resize 'while keeping one in the original size" I will now try to use the third last icon above that says: "insert a photo into your post" and see what happens. I store pictures for posting in PhotoBucket and link it from there. Daylily "Destined to See"
Sweet success ! Hope my luck holds.

Reminds me why I need a new camera. Destined to See is one of my favorites as well. The scape was rather short on mine, not sure if this is the norm or not. First time flowering for me, hopefully it's taller this summer. Made a bunch of crosses this past summer with Destined to See. Hopefully in a few years, I get something nice.

It was the second season blooming for me with "Destined to see". I don't however raise mine from seed but rather have purchased my corms straight from a supplier. I've read somewhere that with Daylilies, Lilies and even Hostas you never get the exact same plant from seed then what the parent plant is like.

Gerlinde, if you lock the aspect ratio when you resize, your image will not be distorted.

I have that daylily too, and it is really stunning. I feel the same way you do about daylilies, Gerlinde, and I love the way you expressed it.

Re: resizing pictures, in my case Helen, I resized some of my earlier pictures with Photo Shop (from 1200 down to 600) and then printed the picture, the pic was distorded. Looks like the photo lies somewhat underwater. I now don't resize any longer, no need for it really. I store the pics I want to post in forums in PhotoBucket. Thank you for your help, very much appreciated.

Hi Arlene; You are welcome to seeds from the Hemerocalles "Destined to See" if you like. Just say the word and I will save you some this coming season.

Perhaps you misunderstood me, Dori. I am not against raising Daylily's from seed. It works for a lot of people, it just does not work for me. Or better said, I don't care personally to practice the seed method. As I explained before, I don't have enough workable room to plant a whole bunch of flowers even though we live on a 7 acre plot of land. Every time I plant something we have to dig and remove a rock first, so planting is tedious at best here. A real challenge. So when I like a new Daylily I purchase one. I also like the Lily face the Hybridizer person created, that is why I purchased it, don't care to change it. But I agree, it must be fun I am sure to hybridize ones own Daylily's further.

Daylilies are absolutely gorgeous! I'm also Hem -fanatic. Makes me sad that every summer seems to happen same way with the seeds : I manage to pollinate very earlies well and the seeds are growing until the rains come at the same time every year and all seeds rotten before ready to collect. I've now planned to build some sort of plastic roof over my flower bed to keep them dryer. Just wonder what my neighbours will think about it. Well... they're already thinking I'm not quite OK but a bit lights on- nobody home- case with my Hems so probably they'll just watch and report about new turns to my doctor ; ).

Calendula i didn't misunderstand you at all sorry if you took my post to mean something other than what i meant it to say!! I just posted my pic! LOL If you don't like to grow them from seed-thats fine! I rather enjoy making new babies and buying full grown daylilies! Im a plant addict! I live on a centennial farm and have a mountain of rocks that have been picked up and stacked in a Huge pile over the past 100yrs-i have to buy new tines for my tiller every year from the rock damage, so i do understand! I have over an acre of gardens planted and I'm always making just one more! Today i will start tomatoes from seeds. I already have several trays of daylily babies growing-keeps me sane in the winter months! Sorry if i offended you in any way-wasn't my intentions! these are some of my babies

Oh, no offence taken, Dori. I think that one just can't express oneself the same in a post then one could in person. Don't you agree. It's not that I am against seeding Heme's but more that I don't have the strength any longer to make more flower beds and collect more giant rocks. You are a nice young person , if I were in your shoes I would set the world on fire. Been there done that. Unfortunately when you get older the back is not co-operating as much and good old Arthur (arthritis) is ever present. But, I am not about to give up only everything goes slower as before. Like your young plants, Dori. You have a great green thumb. Looking forward to your Heme pics this season.

Notmatha and Calendula....both your daylilies are beautiful. I agree, some things come across differently in posts, than if you were talking to someone face2face. I am glad you guys cleared that up!

Love your Destined to See. I agree that the older I get the harder it is to enlarge beds... more work. Since I am in the city, and only have a city lot, my space dictates how much I can enlarge. lol. Yes, growing these from seed will not produce the exact same flower, but I love the anticipation of the surprise to see what your new flowers will look like. I was sent some from a generous garbenbuddy a couple years ago, and got a couple of nice ones. Planted babies last year, and can't wait to see what the flowers will look like this summer.

Daylily is my absolute favorite perennial, and for all the reasons you mentioned here. I can't imagine that a flower bed could be complete without them. For some reason, I'm only seeing the blasted red X now.
