Hey everyone I was wondering if I could divide my lilly's right now? I am very busy in the fall and I don't have time to do it then. The growth is only 1" right now and almost the whole root ball is above the ground already. And probably 3 feet around. If I just grab one root and break it off and move it, it regrows just fine. So I was wondering if I could do it now. (it is April 12/08) Just wondering :) Hope to hear back. Also I was wondering how do I find the zone I live in?

The fall would be best but I have done it in the spring too. If you need to do it go ahead any time you can work the soil.

http://www.landscapeontario.com/hardiness.php Here you go for plant hardiness zones and yes I agree with Arlene daylilies can be divided in spring but I would wait until after the last frost date in your area.

you can divide them anytime! They are hardy! We have growers here that dig and sell them in bloom so you see what your getting. Just give them lots of water after you divide!

I agree... daylilies can be divided just about any time you can dig. When we moved to our new house in 2004, I had no choice on the timing and planted them at the beginning of June. By June it can get pretty hot in Oklahoma, but they took off great, and some of them even bloomed that year. Not bad when you consider that they had spent 5 months in pots waiting for the house to be built.
