Fritillary, lots of choices, I find myself tracking so many auctions of daylily's I want. I received a bonus plant with the Royal Braid, the seller gave me Lexington Avenue I'm getting Bella Sera in the spring, love the purple.

Lexington Avenue. Just for some experience and fun, I will be crossing this with all the daylily's I have collected so far, using pollen from other daylily's to pollinate it. You never know what it will produce, thats the exciting and fun part.

I bought A Bella Sera, now I just have to wait till May to receive it. I had the seller hold off sending, I didn't want to risk planting out this late, with such an expensive purchase.

Wanted...expert advice. I experimented with crossing two of my daylilies this year. I have the seeds, which have been sitting in the fridge for the last 3 weeks. Now what? Should I wait for spring and keep the seeds in the fridge. Should I plant soon indoors?

Well I am no expert but I read that it is hard to keep lilies growing under lights all winter, unless you have a greenhouse,of course I have to try this so I have started a few just to see what happens. If I were you I would wait and start my seeds in the spring for planting out after all danger of frost is past. I have planted seeds directly in the garden in the fall and had great results and the next year planted out a bunch of seeds and only got about 3 seedlings, so will never do that again.Guff, love Bella Sera, got a cross of her from Lily Auction. Have you been checking out the 2006 "intros' ,they are out of this world.

Janet, 2006 intro's at the Lilyauction?, I will take a look. Bella Sera is a super pretty one,I really like the purple and blue daylily's the best. I can't wait, hopefully I receive a flowering size fan. The seller is super nice, and sells alot at the Lilyauction, so I would expect, he sells super nice fans. If I get flowers, I will be doing crosses with all my lily's, I can't imaging what Bella Sera x Strawberry Fields Forever might make.

Guff,no not at the auction, on the web. Look up "Charlotte's Daylily Dairy" and go to the "Hybridizers corner " ,can't miss it ,on the opening page. All of the popular hybridizers are on there and a lot of them have the 2006 intros up already. A fun place to visit even if you are not buying, can't afford to buy much there. My next lily I want is "Owl Ears",a beautiful purple. Will have to look up name of hybridizer. .I have not tried this method to speed up germination but will this spring. You can soak seeds in a mixture of 10%H202 solution.{1 part hydrogen peroxide to 9 parts water}at room temperature. said to plant seeds when see them start to sprout or after 3 days soaking.

sometimes they sell tissue culture daylilies lots cheaper than the real thing. I dont buy off ebay anymore for that reason alone! I only buy there if I know the seller! I think my mildred mitchell and CIG and spacecoast starburst are Tissue cultures. I did get another sc starburst to compare with next yr! I also only buy from daylily sellers-never from wayside or any of the plant people!!! I have tons of seeds that my son(12)and I crossed all summer. Tinkersgarden.com is a daylily forum and data base-tis a wonderful place! If anyone wants more info please just ask.

Curious, why you think that(tissue culture) Most daylily sellers on Ebay, are normal everyday people, and have no access to equipment in order to do tissue cultures. The high volume sellers, have fields and fields of daylily's, and I think it's all from extra fans.

The reason I said this was just to let people know that there are TC's out there being sold as regular field grown daylilies. I dont know if yours are TC's or not, i dont even know if the above mentioned ones of mine are. The reason I think mine are is: When i got scstarburst it was from a local nursery and they had TONS of them for 13.50 and buy one get one FREE. At this time SCstarburst was still kind of new and selling for double that on the LA. As was explained to me there should have been that many on the market that fast. That is why I bought another SCstarburst from a daylily farm! I was very new to daylilies and had no idea what a TC even was. I also got mildred mitchell off Ebay and used buy it now for 9.99 what a deal half what they were selling for anywhere else. When it bloomed it was close to mildred mitchel but not exact. This is what I have learned in the past 3yrs collecting daylilies and that is why i now only buy off the LA and from daylily farms! You dont have to be able to do the TC yourself-like that local nursery, they had no idea they could be tissue cultures they just ordered from a company somewhere else then resold to buyers. I could have bought them all at that price and put them on ebay and made $$ ***lesson learned(finally after 40some yrs) If it seems to good to be true it usually is ;) I hope yours and mine arent TC's! I just wanted you and others to be aware that they are out there. The 2006 intros are really something this yr but im not paying 300.00 for 1fan of anything! I will wait till they come down a tad! I did just pick up spiny sea urchin for spring delivery Do you have a Eureka daylily price guide?? i found this very helpful in my 2nd yr of buying? here is a link to my daylilies so far ;) http://db.tinkersgardens.com/?script=7.4&xUID=358589872 ***Im no daylily expert always learning here!

I did some research about tissue cultures months ago, because I wanted to do it for Lady Slippers, and Cyclamen. Maybe there are some wholesale daylily farms, doing it, I guess I would do the same. But, even with tissue culture, it still take years to get a flowering fan. Thats why you still see daylily's that have been out for years still $100-300. Tissue culture, should give you an exact copy. As far as the same daylily looking different, that has to do with soil, growing conditions. If you look back a page in this thread, I posted two pictures of Royal Braid, and they are totally different looking. I have noticed it a lot, when I was comparing prices.

Well, winter is coming to a close very soon. I have been thinking about all my seeds I have stashed in the fridge. Another couple weeks, I think I will start them. Getting excited about spring coming, hopefully all my daylilys that I planted in the fall survived. Two more months and my Bella Sera will be here, I may even up the delivery date to April, if it looks like a early spring. I think I will put the Bella Sera in a big pot, and bring it back indoors come winter. If I get a extra fan or two by fall, I will stick one fan outdoors and see if it survives the winter.
