I have heard of rebloom but can't remember if I get much of that occurrence in my garden? Possibly with stella de ora and that is about it. Variety would make a difference of coarse and might be that our growing season in ND is too short anyway? - (Zone 3 -4)
After flowering does it help to cut the entire foliage back to encourage second bloom (and right now in real heat of summer) ? or is this not the thing to do? any helps or suggestions as to how you would proceed on this. thanks

I'm in zone 7b so there is a lot of difference. However, I would not cut back foliage on daylilies. I never cut back foliage on them. Some are dormant and will die back, and others are semievergreen and then others evergreen. Im still watching to see some of mine rebloom here, though my plants are not very mature yet. I do fertilize after blooming to encourage rebloom.

Remove the flower stalks and any seed pods promptly. Remove any ragged looking leaves and keep the plants watered. Like Berry suggest fertilize after the first bloom.

Llewellyn, in your zone in ND and in my zone re bloom is difficult, like you said, the season's too short....but this year I have instant re bloom on stella and happy returns as well as other's. We have had a great lawn year...it rains the right amount every week, so ... the daylily's continued to be in active growth.

Last thing, re bloom is genetic. In the north re bloom probably is not the correct term.

Continuous bloom, an early flowering daylily that continues to flower. Continuous flowering is in the gene's. Darrel Apps, Mike Huben and many others have worked for many years in isolating these gene's.

'Apricot Sparkles', 'My Complimentary', 'Kenai Sensei', 'Tuscanilla Tranquility', 'Rosy Returns', 'Early and Often' and 'Share Me', plus stella, 'Happy Returns' and 'Big Time Happy' are a few that will be continuous that I have in my garden.

I was able to bring home from Mecca, The Band Played On, a Stamile 2007. It has bloomed constantly all summer. Grace says it is the first to bloom in their garden and the last. It is very beautiful. It is red with black eye and edge.

Two from three of my daylilies are re booming this year, first bloom in May and second in September. Both have yellow flowers, one is stella de oro that I bought in May, the other is unknown that I got from my cousin years ago. I can’t tell the reason, because I didn’t observe them and seldom take care of them. I’ll start it. I harvest the flowers for cooking, a delicious daylilies, cucumber, eggs and wood ears (A mushroom, Botanic name: Auricularia auricula) dish.

I think most of it is in the genes, but even then, daylilies may not rebloom without some encouragement in the form of adequate water and fertilizer. Pardon me, Siloam Ury Winiford, and Black-Eyed Stella are reblooming for me right now. My Orange Fulva is still in bloom, as well.
