Bought a package of three bare roots this year. First two are blooming; very nice blue. However one has a double bloom; five petals inside the outer petals. The package listed them as Platycodon grandiflorus. Is the double have a special cultivar name?

In general, the double form of any flower is denoted as 'plenum', e.g. Platycodon grandiflorus 'Plenum'. Casting about through my references, there also appears to be at least one named double variety, 'Park's Double Blue'... there are quite likely several more. However, the suffix 'plenum' is correct for these too. Hope that helps.}

Thank you!. The sub-species name is actually more important to me than the commercial name
