There are several types of mat forming campanula. This is a deep blue one which blends nicely with Lady's Mantle. Note the star shaped flowers.

This lighter blue one is used as an edging. It has the typical thimble shaped flowers and is often sold as "Fairy Thimbles".

Some of these tend to run about, but I enjoy that. They are easy to remove if they grow where you don't want them.

Another mat/clump forming variety - Dickson's Gold. I like the contrasting yellow/lime green foliage with this one, when in bloom cannot see much of foliage, but before and after flowering it is a lovely clump of the yellow/lime green leaves.

WOW Kath, I've never seen it that floriferous! You must have fed it well!
Do I spy one of those wonderful dark leaved geraniums in the background?

GB and Kath, what are the botanical names of these matt forming campanulas - there are so many kinds? Are they perennial or do they reseed annually? They are really lovely.

This one is new and is called Acaulis Glomerata. It bloomed in early June and again in early August.
Sorry it isn't real clear.

Go you have 'Blue Waterfalls', GB? It looks alot like a variety White Flower Farm is selling called 'Blue Gown'. I'd like to add this variety along my new front walkway.

I've not heard of that one Sue. Always game to try though. The only thing that might slow me down is if it is particularly "energetic" in the spreading department. Some of mine reseed between pavers, but I like that. They're not hard to remove from an area where I don't want them.

GB I use campanula "mat" types as shade plants for my clematis. They do really well together. I think it is always nice to see a flash of color at the base of the clematis.
