My brand new this year confederate rose just bloomed this week. I have been waiting all summer to see if that rooted cutting that I got would actually bloom this year. When I saw the buds coming I was very happy. The flowers, to me, resemble some of my pink camelias. I was surprised to see a tiny little single dark pink flower in the middle of the large one. The only disappointment was finding out that they only last one day before they close again. Mary
The cutting that I started with near the ground.

That is disappointing. I was under the impression that the blooms lasted up to 3 days starting white and changing to near red before they were done. I have one I started from seed in spring 2004 and one I started from seed in spring 2005. Neither have bloomed yet. How nice to get satisfaction so quick. It really is very pretty. I hope mine bloom this year.

Very pretty. I need to check to see if they are hardy here.
