It is Hibiscus moscheutos, aka hardy hibiscus aka swamp mallow. Hard to say which one, maybe Luna Red.

Thanks so much! I did not get any viable seed off of it this year. At least I do not think they were viable. The seeds were very very tiny. I was told the seeds should be about the size of the rose of sharon seeds. Is this true? I hope I do not sound like the garden idiot! lol Thanks so much for your help VerdantOgfreen! Mary

there is a flare hibiscus that I grew about 5 years ago and its seeds were black and were fine like grains of sand.When looking at yours it does look alot like it,but a lil darker than the coloring in the picture.I didn't grow it again cause it got whitefles so bad it looked like it was sitting in a blizzard of snow.it was a hardy hibiscus also.

H123, If I had to guess I'd say it's a "Disco Bell". From your pic it looks pretty short and compact with a nice big flower. Most other hardy varieties are taller.
