What a great progression! I love seeing how the gardens change from month to month! I love them all, but the colors in your front garden are wonderful!

No they aren't too bad. This year we had a few very cold days with no snow cover so it hurt some things. Other than that we might get a tiny bit of snow once or twice a year. Nothing like the winters to the north or east of us. Its also VERY mild in the summer. Our days are still in the 60s and low 70s.

Oh my suzy, I am getting so many ideas from you. I have a HUGE back yard that I am just dying to landscape. Your flowers are so pretty! I am new here and you and all the other gardenbuddies are becoming a real inspiration to me!

Thanks Robyn! I have gotten incredible inspiration, information and friendliness from Gardenbuddies as well. If you post some pictures of your yard I am sure plenty of people will offer suggestions. Try the Annuals and Perennials forum or possibly the Beds and Borders Forum. Reading through those threads gives you great ideas too. My garden is very new..less than 2 years old. It was a wasteland before then. Its been very fun filling it up.

Hey Suzy, I'm doing some thinking for fall planting and I noticed that plant in the first picture, right in front, next to the little light. It has beautiful green foliage and little yellow blooms. I'm looking for front of the border plants and I really love this one. Can you tell me what it is and how it has done for you all year? Thanks!!

Hi Leslie I think the plant you are talking about is actually a combination of two. The yellow flowers are from a viola/johnny jumpup plant. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/wildseed/29/29.4.html They are actually yellow/purple. All of the green foliage you see around the light comes from a nice "pillow" of common thyme. The viola is in front of the thyme and the thyme has actually kind of grown around it so that in the picture it looks like all the same plant! I have way to many things crammed together But I kind of like the crazy quilt effect it gives. The viola alone has nice foliage but it tends to get raggedy as the temps get hotter. We have way fewer hot days than you do, so mine stays nicer longer than it would for you. It would however be a great fall plant and it does have a tendency to reseed so you get little babies here and there. Easy to pull up if you don't want them. When I plant them in the fall mine bloom through the winter. The frost doesn't really effect them. I'm not sure what temp it would take to kill them off. We had 14 degree weather for several days and they still had blooms on them afterwards.

Thanks, Suzy, for the info. I believe I might actually go with the thyme! It is so pretty, and has pretty blooms as well, and stays such a nice green. I want something that is neat and tidy.
