What a transformation, Charlene! You've done a beautiful job. Maybe the maple will turn crimson again in cooler autumn weather.

Flower Power: Believe it or not, the plant in front of the door is a bunch of basic, cheap ole coleus. The kind you buy cheap from Home Depot in a flat. Thanks for the compliment about my front border. There is a hilarious thread from the Spring where I go out and move huge trees and bushes, photograph it, post it on here, get advice and then go out and redo the entire bit, photograph it again and post it again. Boy did I exhaust myself and drive my Gardenbuddies crazy. Mimi: Hello there. On the display to the right, I tucked 18 of them in between (1) mini boxwoods (you can see them from the Spring pic); (2) one spirea; and (3) some late flowering tulips. You can see the tiny coleus plants in the Spring picture. They fill in almost weirdly on me and completely obscure all the bushes inside them. I also used 18 for the left side too. Speaking of insane growth, I have been meaning to ask you about morning glories. I'd love to get some crazy vine thing going next year with perhaps some fishing line going up high onto the "V" of the portico thingey on my porch. Have you still got your huge glories going?

Looks great! And to say you did it all! There is a home recently built along main here.. All summer.. trucks.. workmen..gardeners..have been leveling sodding.. pathing ..stone drivewaying..Then the trucks filled with plants.. and boxwoods and mature and less mature trees. I know the house is worth millions..but the landscaping alone must come pretty darn close. I can't even imagine..having someone plant everything instantly.. Your way sounds like more fun.

It still looks really lovely, very soft with a hint of the crimson. I like it both seasons! I think I need to add some shrubs to my border. How have you liked the ones you planted. They really look wonderful in that last picture. You know, that garden looks like it's been there for a few years. Great job!

I somehow missed this when you first posted. Love the transformation Charlene! Your hard work has paid off. Your plant choices are very complimentary and I'm looking forward to the winter shot...your bones have changed :-)

Oh boy. Thanks for the kind messages everyone!! Leslie - you asked whether I liked the things I planted: I do!! (Though I'll have to see how the upright Junipers do with the Winter -- I may spray them with an antidessicant; not sure if lightly tying is a good idea). I'm glad I got the upright juniper in the "Blue Point" variety because even though I wanted them taller when I planted I really like the blue/green color. They ended up growing 6 inches or more. And that light blue "Montgomery Spruce" stayed looking nice all Spring and Summer. The chartreuse/yellow Japanese Maple got some leaf sunburn but stayed bright all summer. I love conifers mixed with maples and one day would love to have a nice sized garden of only dwarf conifers, pretty rocks and japanese maples. Next year, I am not going to do a "line-up" of annuals in this front border because they cover the small spruce and some cute things I have in there like a bright green Heuchera. Cheers everyone.

Love seeing your garden, Charlene. Where are you in NJ? I have a friend who comes from Woodbridge, NJ. Are you anywhere near that town? Your house looks like the cute houses I saw in Woodbridge when I visited there! Very pretty house!
