This is what our Gazebo looks like in the summer- warm & friendly!
This is what it looked like today- Brrrrr!!! We had about 8" of snow & the Northeaster was blowing. No electricity for awhile this morning which means no heat, no lights, no water-- BAH! I'd rather have warm & friendly!! At least it's now thawing- the wind turned around to the south & we're dripping all over the place- big thumps when the clods of snow come off the trees-- but at least they're coming off-- YEAH!!

The gazebo looks miniscule compared to the size of your trees!

The Gazebo isn't small- the trees ARE big- about 50-70' & up-- gazebo is 20' high & 18' across. The trees are all second growth- the first growth on the farm was logged around 1887.

Looks dreamy both ways, Cory. That is a beautiful gazebo in a lovely setting. I like the two tiered roof.

That is gorgeous, no matter what the season. It sure is strange how such a huge gazebo can appear small among those trees. Twenty feet tall is about how tall my house is, and eighteen feet is how long my office is. It must be quite stunning for visitors to walk up to your gazebo and realize just how big it is. Makes me wonder what size I should get if I ever get around to building a gazebo. Maybe I should build a pavilion instead. LOL.

Thanks everyone- I love it in all seasons but esp. when the weather is warm & I can sit in my rocking chair out there w/ my feet up & a good book, cup of tea--aaahhh. What you don't see is the absolutely stunning view of Mt Baker & the foothills from my chair. Heirloomgardens- you want it as big as possible, because, as the husband said- "you're only getting ONE, so it'd better be right right from the start!" and wicker rocking chairs take up a LOT of room- have to have at least 4 in there-- & then there's the neat stuff you have to put in it like cool rocks & a Zen garden & lanterns &..... Oh, yes & the 8 sided table in the center that they built for me for Christmas one year-- gotta have LOTS of room! Sunnyday2day- I drew a picture of the gazebo I wanted & gave it to the husband -Walt- & son - David-& they built it for me. Very handy guys, those 2. David says it's his PHD in angles because every shake had to be hand cut at a different angle. He says if he ever builds one for his wife it's going to be SQUARE! If you look up when you're inside it looks like a very intricate spider's web- beautiful! We got the railings & dowels from an old train station in Bellingham when it was being re-done. The station was built around 1890- the dowels are from first growth oak that they used to make ship's masts out of & are hard as iron- had to paint them - I would have preferred stain but it wouldn't sink in at all.

Your gazebo has a very interesting history.
Hahaha, that is excellent advice!

My thoughts exactly. But I wonder when do you get to put your feet up with all those dahlias to take care of?

Loretta- The husband takes care of the dahlias- I do the hybridizing & we do the evaluating & disbudding together but he does all the planting, tying, spraying, all that messy stuff. I take care of the gardens around the house- the annuals, planters, borders & all that stuff. SusanQ- come on out in the summer- Aug/Sept are the best! It's really hard to get a picture of the mountain from the gazebo because it's kind of dark in the woods but here's some from the dahlia field. Cory

Knock my socks off stunning! Wow... Ok.. I would do the messy stuff alongside ya hubby if I got to take in these spectacular views!... Ok ok.. I know it's easier said than done, but really beautiful setting and so cool that you are really living your surroundings... I mean that you really take such good advantage of what mother nature has placed all around you... and it seems like an 'all hands on board" memory building family adventure. Look how lovely that gazebo appears in both summer and winter.. beyootiful. Okis lol.. forgive ze ramble. Thanks for sharing the piccies!

Another view of the garden leading up to the Gazebo- this time in spring when the weeping tree & some of the camelias & rhodies are in bloom. The rose garden looks much better now than it did when I took this picture in March- or beginning of April- can't remember which. I got 18 new roses in it for Mother's Day & my B-day last month. Will try to get another picture of the gazebo garden through the rose garden to match the rest of the pictures if it's sunny tomorrow.
