Hi everyone, A newbie here, been gardening for a few years now, but only just got a brugmansia through a friend. I have 20-20-20 fertilizer that I purchased from wal-mart, but it's not maracle grow. The plant is about 2ft tall now, and am looking to get some height from it in the next few months as well as some blooms. Is this fert good enough, and what regime should I practise? Thank you

I always like to mix half a dose of what they suggest. You can always add more later. I also like to use half dose because if you regularly fertilize on a frequent basis the salt residue's can build up in the soil and have a negative result on your plant. These are just extreme cases though for people that go fert happy. Do you understand what the numbers 20-20-20 mean?

Equal ratio of NPK? For growth, bloom and overall nutrient?

Good stuff!...with that info in hand you can base your fertilizing regime around the results you want to accomplish. I'm a big fan of organic gardening and the mind from of "Feeding the soil not the plant"...With all the problems with runoff and runs rampant in neighboorhoods today I like to think that i'm not sending some synthesized chemicals down river. There are many organic alternatives to reach your N-P-K all of which can be obtained at your local neighborhood garden store. Nitrates - Composted Manure - Blood Meal Phosphorus - Bone Meal - Fish Emulsion Potash (K) - Kelp Extract Your plant will tell you what it needs and when it has too much. Too much nitrates and you achieve a long leggy look; too few and your plant will be stubby and unattractive. There is a happy medium. Hope this helps a little. I was reading my previous post and I hope I didnt sound arrogant. Not at all intended. Good Luck!

Eklectic, welcome to GB! If you click on my garden in my post you can walk in our gardens. We specialize in Brugmansia and if you start feeding before you take them outside with half strength you should do okay if the period isn't to far off before setting them out?
