We've had rain, and more rain, and wind! I almost missed a glorious rainbow when I was coming home from swimming today. The colors were so bold and it almost looked like I could touch it. I transplanted two houseplants today. Perhaps I just needed to get my hands dirty...no, they needed larger pots. I noticed our Fall colors are showing up now. Odd to think that red, yellow, orange, pink color is actually there in the leaves all this time, but just hidden by the green. Some of our maples have a beautiful pink color. I know they are so pastel compared to the colors on the East coast, but I love them. I'm working on paper dolls of my three grand daughters and clothes. I hope to have them done when I see them again. Will take a photo of them. And I had a new idea for a watercolor for the master bedroom, with deep maroon colored flowers and dark green leaves...Will work on that now that our blustery weather has arrived. |

I've been to Bonitoad's twice in the last little while. She's been quite ill with a virus. Both times I took my camera with me and took some pics of some of the blooms in her garden. She has an amazing collection of toad lilies (and many other plants..what a garden!). Mostly I've been raking leaves. Picked the last of the tomatoes, although I still have turnip and Swiss chard in the garden. I had planned to divide rhubarb and the peonies, but my back just said, "No." (I did have a cortisone shot in my back and couldn't believe the relief. Why did I say no to this before?) But I'm still not going to divide the plants now. Next Spring, perhaps. |

We're in the middle of a weather system called the 'Pineapple Express'! It is extremely wet. We're much better off where we live than many on the lower part of the Island or the mainland. There is so much flooding. The ground is so saturated I wouldn't want to see much wind or we'll have trees down too. I walked out to the boat today, just to check on the portable garage covering it, and saw muddy footprints in the lawn where I had walked. Poor cats had to stay in today, the young ones. So, I did some gardenbuddying rather than anything outside, although I did sweep the leaves, once again, off the sidewalk under the trumpet vine. It's so good to see all the birds back! Wonderful. |

I swept leaves and fir needles today. Rain, rain, go away.... |

We did clean-up in the yard this weekend, because the weather was so nice. I had actually set a post ing up, showing the fire we had, and the fires on the Beaufort Range, but hadn't named the photo properly so I couldn't post it. Then I saw just how serious the fires in California had become, and thought my posting would be tactless, so I didn't re-do it. We have nice weather again today and I'm glad most of the outside work is finished up for the winter. Our evenings are very foggy with the ground fog, and by morning the sea fog has moved in. That's very typical here. If we go to a higher elevation it's clear all day and night. I find the fire in California keeps coming to my mind during the day and I pray that Phyllis and Treanna's houses will be spared. (We had record-breaking fires here in this Province this summer, and are still involved in raising money to help the victims.) I'm still trying to cope with the time change as well, leaving daylight-saving-time behind again. |

I usually have a good browse around the web site and run out of time to post. For some reason I'm so much busier now than in the summer. I know I'm putting in a little more time on my computer work, and I swim every weekday, but I don't know where the time goes. DH's surgery has been rescheduled to next Friday, Nov. 7, instead of this Monday. It's one of those things you don't want, but want to have done and over. He's been trying to finish off any of the outside work that he won't be able to do after. I swept leaves again today, and put out more bird seed. They are very fond of the bird seed we buy now and go through each full feeder every day. Stellar's Jays are a pain (beautiful though), and quite a few of the sparrows are back. It was a beautiful day once the fog burned off. The weather is getting colder and we're expecting heavy frost now. |

The temperature when down to -5º during the night and suddenly all the leaves are off the trees. The trumpet vine is bare (finally...) so I did the last of the cleanup. My neighbour, Al, is busy with his lawn tractor everyday, picking up the leaves of his two huge oak trees that are right across from our driveway. I think he just really enjoys using his lawn tractor (as do all the other men in the neighbourhood), but I really appreciate it too. The frost has finished off the last of my blooms. We've also had very blustery days, but they're sunny. Just cold. The forecast is for light flurries ... amazing. Where did fall go? My Boston Ivy leaves haven't turned red yet, but I think this frost has done them in. It's time to bring in the Laughing Monks. |

The grass is all cut again, and we're thinking it's for the last time this year. We had a wonderful sunny day, even a bit warmer. My clothes almost dried on the line. The only blooms that survived the frost were some snap dragons I hadn't even planted. Don't know where they came from. And my heritage rose still had some blooms. The sedum looked so pretty this morning, with all the white frost on top, and purple underneath. I think the forecast is for possible snow flurries, and I hope not. But suddenly the trees look so bare, and I lament that the really fun part of Autumn is almost gone. |

I'm a little out-of-sorts tonight. Wayne (DH) has been booked for surgery tomorrow morning. He's sleeping soundly, and I'm fretting away. During the day I kept myself busy, but tonight is a different story. We had more record-breaking weather, but this time it's the low temperatures for this time of year. We are not used to -7º C until January at least. The days are sunny but not very warm. I will enjoy the sun while it's here! I'm off. And I hope both Wayne and I will feel relieved it's over tomorrow night and he's then on the road to recovery! |

He's home already! And he's doing great. Of course he walks funny, has an odd way of sitting down and getting up, but he looks and sounds very well. Wayne had surgery on his abdomen as well as his leg (two different surgeons) and I think it's wonderful that they combined both. It will be some time before he's up to speed again, but I'm sure he'll have a full recovery. It's still very cold here (for the West Coast) and the days are very bright and sunny. We have ice on the creek. The Boston Ivy leaves are just dropping, without turning red. I planted my Papillo Amaryllis and shall be content watching that grow. |

Our back yard is beautiful.... at night. Each November our neighbours host a Christmas crafts sale in their shop (used to be an old barn) and this year they have strung lights up along our fence (100 ft.) and the far side of the driveway. The portable canopy is decorated and, of course, the shop. It's looking decidedly festive. The sale is this weekend, so I'm going to try out the night shot function of my camera and see if I can get a good photo. Every year this is a huge success for the group our neighbour supports. Proceeds from the sale go to charity. The weather has warmed up, so we have some clouds and the odd shower. We missed the lunar eclipse, because we have a limited horizon here, living in a valley, and, of course, the clouds moved in that night. Wayne continues to improve. It's quite nice having him home for a couple of weeks. He does a little bit more each day (and I'm so glad he feels well enough to look after the chickens) and friends have stopped in to visit him. On Sunday he received a lovely basket of fruit...yum. |

It snowed!!!......? What? (scratching my head) Snow? The Beautfort Range looks beautiful covered with white, and it can just stay up there looking pretty. Actually, it warmed up a little today, and then the temp. went back down, so we have black ice on the road. We had planned to drive down Island tomorrow, but have postponed, for several reasons. We would have been returning very late, and I would have a tense ride home. Plenty of time to go later sometime. |

It's cold, but was sunny today and we managed to see some of the mountains, covered with snow. My new SIL is overjoyed! He's an avid skier. It has been an odd Fall though. My wisteria is still covered with leaves...brown, limp leaves, still hanging on. Bonitoad was mentioning too that she didn't have a chance to really enjoy the Fall colors because the first few days of frost nipped everything. It was rather harsh. |

I started the day off very well, but had sad news at swimming, and again in the afternoon. I came home and kept busy until time to put supper on. Wayne goes back to work tomorrow. We've had a little preview of life after retirement. One of us needs a project! (Yes, I think it's me.) Actually, Bonitoad was telling me about someone who carves faces in poles. It sounds very interesting and I plan to look into that. I am so keen on my laughing monks, but the wood makes the faces seem a little warmer. Wonder if I could do it.... |

I've spent time with both my sisters this week. Bonitoad has made the most beautiful quilt. I'll take my camera with me the next time I go, and post the photo after Christmas. She is so talented. It's her own design, and truely Canadian. Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. I drove along the river and saw poor ol' Bruce sitting once again with the mercury outboard motor. He did fly away with his flock, but has come back for the winter and I believe he is a little two-timer. He's definitely old enough for a mate, but sees something he really fancies in this motor. Talk about quirky Canadian geese. |
