Have water going all day, being gone, every thing dried out terribly..I had cut most of the Clematis back weeks ago, they are up and blooming again, very limp for need of water. They have all perked up again...Thank goodness..
My days gone were a wonderful delight, I met EJ and toured the Path...It was a thrill of my Gardenbuddie Life time...I still cannot decide just where I want to plant the Coral tree he gave me. I have carried it all over this garden today...I seen at Molly's nursery just how big they get, also there are many around here that are huge..
So I need to plan well....
It is very warm here today, feels like a Santa Ana in the brewing....

Oh my it is HOT here today, and dry.... I don't dare plant anything in this heat.. It is all I can do to keep things going..
I have to make a decision on what to do about the 'Blue Passion' vine that has so over grown the arch, it is now trying to strangle the flowering plum, and the Star Pine...It has become quite a pest....Pretty, but a pest never the less...Besides it comes up every where all over the front gardens. One came up out in the road in crack in the pavement. It is determined....
I will *hate* my water bill this next month....

The garden is cleaned up once again,it won't stay that way, so today I will enjoy it...As I weed.
I was reading some of the journals here, as gardeners are getting the gardens ready for winter, it is hard for me to even imagine it all, what they have to do...While I am lamenting over the constant weeding, cutting things back, the heat, water bills, and white flies...year round.
We do every once in awhile get a cold Winter..

Today I will continue to cut the passion vine back, it is so out of hand, it has gone wild. also need to pull up all the off shoots it sends up.
Today will be another deadheading day, boy miss a few days and it's a mess.....
Still in the 90 here, suppose to be cooler today.Hope so........

10-25-03 Midday
With the threat of a Santa Ana going to start blowing, I hurried and pulled the blue passion vine off the long arch. In hopes that it won't blow over as it has before. Really made a mess of things when it did. Although My SIL has put cement around it, I still just want to be sure.
I am going to move the Passion Vine up to the gazebo..It is to messy for out front..Pretty but messy...
I have more bulbs to plant, it is way to hot to do that today.I just need to make sure every thing is watered and pray I don't lose any plants....
While most are getting the gardens ready for Winter, this is what is happening in my garden.

Bulbs coming up every where. I can only hope for some much cooler weather to retard them from blooming to soon....

Oh the poor poor garden, Santa Ana winds and no water is doing a number on it. I have water a few of the pots, But the city is asking us to reserve water for the fire fighting...I do want to do my part.Yet.....I just can't let it all die.Oh what to do????.
I will give it another day and decide tomorrow...

Another day of fires, 5 days now. All of us neighbors on our road got together for a chat 2 evenings in a row. They all told me, that they will conserve more water so I can water the garden here, They said since I am the only one with a garden and they enjoy it so, that I can have their allotment of water.
Isn't that just the kindest and sweetest thing that anyone could do for a gardener. I just broke down and cried.. Yet I will still be careful to not waste any water. We do still need it to fight the fires.
The garden surprisingly is holding its own, it does need water in some places, but it is doing OK. All the ash on every thing makes it look sad and dirty. When you see a beautiful white rose with ash on it, it looks like it is dieing..
Today the fire moves a little farther North East from Escondido.. The air quality is terrible still.

10-31- AM
I took the day yesterday to do some gardening, the air was fresh. There were real clouds in the sky, not smoke clouds. It rained in parts of the county. My garden did not get any rain. But I hope it did rain were it was need for the fires.
I stay out side as much as I could, cutting back roses, deadheading, watering a little here and there.
Mostly I tried to rest my mind of all the tragedy that surrounds us here.
I am thankful for the garden. It is healing.
I just took the day to my self.

Sunday Morning
We did get rain. Not very much here at this garden, yet it rained well in the areas that needed it most, it helped the fire fighters. The Fires are at bay now.
Yesterday I lovingly planted the 'Coral' Tree EJ gave me. I put it up on the bank, out front. It looks good there. It is a 'Coral tree' yet to me it will always be my "Gardenbuddie EJ tree"..:)

The garden is once again filled with roses, the moister and cool weather has sent them into a blooming tizzy...So very pretty, yet the blooms are fragile at this bloom..I cut some to take to a friend today, even though I submerged them in water for awhile before cutting and putting them in the vase, this morning most of the petals had fallen off them.. I didn't even think to take a photo..RATS!

I am off to go visit my friend, (sans roses) taking Gerbers instead....

Have plants to plant when I get back...
Much more cutting back and clean up to do also.
All the clematis I cut back are coming back stronger..:):) I have two that must be planted in the garden today.I must be quick about it.

As this is one I cut back 2 months ago,to transplant, it is up and blooming again. I have no ID on it, Yet it is very vigorous and blooms here almost all year. I was going to plant it next to 'Golden Wings' now I will have to wait until it slows down co I can cut it back again.

This year has been a strange gardening season...

Here is my EJ Gardenbuddies Coral tree. I like where it is, it will have room to grow there. EJ said and he showed me a photo, that this Coral tree will have red and white blooms, I am very thankful to have it..
I still have some more plants to move from around it, But it will be OK.. That Sophisticated Garlic need to be moved anyway.
Very chilly here today, clouds and cool, no rain..Maybe tonight if we are lucky..
Most all the Mums I bought to decorate the door steps, have bit the big one. I am cutting the tops off them ,planting them here and there. Will make a nice show next Fall.

A full day in the garden today.
Cutting back more things, pulling out spent flowers.Moving a few things. Battling the gophers.......
Tell me again why I love gardening so...:)
Weedingweedingweeding, never an end to it. Had to give it up for awhile to rest my back.
Good weather to work in the garden, cool with a breeze....

Had a little rain this morning, and it was *just a little* not enough to help the garden. Went and bought 4 more trash cans to fill with the cuttings and debris, so I can leave it for the trash pickup of green waste. I have spent 2 hours filling every trash can on the place plus the new ones.
Planted 2 trees, another trumpet tree, and a tree a friend left for me, it has no tag so I am not real sure what it is. It looks rather like a twig...I will give it a year see how it does...
Thank Goodness my boy's will be here for the Thanksgiving Holiday, do I have a list of heavy work for them..:):) Tom is very good with that sort of thing..
So Is Tim, but he will be busy with a wedding of one of his High School/ College Football friends....
Tony the 'Chef' doesn't do gardens, just goes out to pick fresh herbs for his cooking....lol...I know Tom can take care of all of it..:)
Should be another good day in the garden tomorrow ....
Want to redo some of the pots for around the doors....

Rain, wonderful rain...
I can say that for this garden, as we did not get damaging rain fall, just a nice steady soft rain here. Enough to help the garden.
There were a few mud slides around the county, but not real bad. LA area I understand was worse...I don't know how much more those poor people can take....
Now what else 'Mother Nature' is going to throw at us..... is anybodies guess.
Right now This garden and me are being thankful...

Been rather cool since we got the rain- nice- as it is holding the moister in.
Today I hope to get the last of the weeding I will be doing for this week over and done.Get all the trash cans down to the pick up area. I may even get the hoses rolled up and out of the way. Naaaaah I don't want to get to 'fancy' :-)
Have more spent Mums to plant up on the back bank. Getting things ready - as the day after Thanksgiving the kid's will help me to transpose this place from Autumn into Christmas. I will do my Christmas Tea 4 th of Dec. I do want the garden to look good then. Boy am I thankful my Boy's will be here:-)to help me:-):-)
