I will give this a try again this morning.Wrote a very long 'what's happening here' the other day, tried to post it,,,,,zip it was gone.
its very dry and very chilly here now, doesn't seem to deter the weeds..:-(
I was laid up for some time with some wicked evil little flu bug. slept mostly 27 hours at a time. chills and aches. not much fun. sleeping long periods of time like that makes you weak as a new born kitten..I'm Ok now.Thankfully....
The garden suffered a bit. I am watering now, as it did get so dried out..The roses have not missed a beat even with the couple of slight frost we had. Then the Santa Ana stared blowing again, kicked up all the ash from the fires, dropping it all over. What a mess, I do have to get it all cleaned up before the rest of the kids get in tonight, Or it will be tracked in all over this house.
We need a good rain to clear it all out.Yet like I said the garden is fairing, It is surprising all that is blooming.
I have missed so much here at Gardenbuddies. No way I can catch up, guess it best to just carry on when I can..:-)
Ok back to my clean up duties....
Hi to any *buddy* that is reading this..Happy Thanksgiving...:-)

Dawned clear and chilly this morning, no wind yet! Garden needs water, have that going. I am still amazed at all that is blooming and/or getting ready to bloom.
Paper Whites are up and blooming.
Roses
Gerbers (they never stop)
Heliotrope
Purple trumpet vine
Common Day Lily
Much more than I care to type.
I want to start getting the tulips in. also have more bulbs of Daffs to put in. Then hundreds of Ranunculus to get in. That should keep me busy for awhile.
I was happy I could get on here for my Journal, as some of the other sights will not take my password to log on. Hope things are OK. EJ has so much to do to keep us up and going..
Must remember to water all the potted Poinsettias before they dry out.

Got the deadheading done, the roses needed it so.
Pulled a few of the weeds that were almost as tall as the roses.
I see that more gophers are working the upper beds. I set 2 traps, couldn't get the other 2 set.
Very clear,& dry, but not as warm as it was suppose to get.
I am just praying that we the rain that's been predicted for Sunday.
Went to Home Depot this AM to get more Bulb boost...
The bare root roses are in!!!! Time marches on ......
I don't dare clean up the ash all over the patios, as it may blow a Santa Ana again tomorrow.:(:(

Guess I will go plant the rest of my bulbs..

Hope all that been sick are all feeling better..

We have had some soft falling rain , Thankfully it wasn't enough to do any damage in the burnt out fire areas.
The garden has perked up nicely. The poinsettias at the doors look so pretty with their jeweled rain drops on them.
I did get a few tulips planted. Hope to do more today....
I have tried to do some posting this morning, Still have to log in for every thing I do.Takes awhile.

I just came in from the garden, I feel like a frozen pizza...I was trying to plant Tulips..got a few planted then gave it up.

I am such a wimp when it comes to cold weather. I would never make it in the frozen North......Its 64 degrees here and I am so cold ~ I am blue...There was a good frost on every thing this morning..

Thankfully the garden is not minding the chill..Roses blooming away, along with so many other things...Even an Iris ot two.....

Ahhhh but oh my the weeds...I am thinking about getting one of those blow-torch type things to burn the weeds in their tracks, but knowing me I would probably set my shoe or boot on fire. They don't call me *Grace* for nothing...lol

So it's back to the drawing board for me....I really need to get all those tulips in...
The weather said it may be warmer tomorrow.....:)

Thanks to the Santa Ana, there is ash in the air and all over every thing again. What little rain we had dried it out in a flash with the Santa Ana blowing.
Some moron flipped a cigarette out on a Hi-way going to Ramona that started a fire, Thankfully the Fire-fighters got it out fast.
The garden is doing OK, weeds really are having a good time...
The Sunrise this morning is very red due to the ash.
Suppose to be in the low 70,,so I should get the rest of the tulips planted.

Worked the day away in the garden. All the bulbs are in, yet so many are already coming up.
Have Violets, Freesias, Paper Whites, blooming for Christmas.
I washed all the ash off the patios, now I will keep my fingers crossed the wind doesn't kick up again.
Deadheaded most all the roses. The ones with rust and the ones that looked yucky I cut back hard.
Tomorrow I will spray them.
Pulled weed until I was sick of them..

Ahhhhh the day after Christmas..It has rained, every thing is soaked & well watered. I do know that there have been mud slides in some of the burnt out areas. There is a high wind advisory on for today, with scattered showers.. And a wee bit chilly.
The children will leave in the morning back to Texas. Its been a great time. I believe I can repair most of the damage done to the garden due to scooters and such :):)
With the rain every thing looks so fresh and clean..
The next few days will be for cleaning it all up.
As the Grand-girls decided to *help me* decorate; they pulled off every rose bloom to sprinkle the petals all over the patios, driveway, paths and steps.....The wind has hence blew them else where.
Hope everyone had a warm and wonderful Holiday, May rose petals be sprinkled in your gardens too....:)

Here it is Monday January 12th already, I have been cutting back the roses. Like so many garden clean up jobs, once you start that, a million other jobs jump right in the way..:):) With what little rain we have had, the only thing I can see that profited from it ~ are the weeds. They are growing very well, I have an excellent crop of them.....
Yet I shouldn't complain, as I have so many things in bloom also.Even an Iris or two. Are they ever mixed up, or what...:)I have not been here on Gardenbuddie because of the difficulty of logging in for every thing I do, and my computer freezes up once I close GB.
I miss it here very much. Yet I have had no luck at all trying to righten the problem. To be honest I have rather given up.
Hope all is well with all my Garden Buddies.

Now I will have to cold boot this computer to use the computer again..
Happy HELLO to all......

Another sunny warm day today, I took a tour of the upper garden this morning, I have my work cut out for me.More roses to cut back, along with other things that need a good cutting back.
Had a *surprise* for me when I went out the back door this morning, 2 gopher heads, some cat was quite proud of it's hunting skills, bless it.. I do not have any pets, don't need them as there are so many that roam my garden as it is...:):)
The garden is green and blooming, It makes it hard to cut back the roses when some are in full on bloom.. But they do need to be cut back, this is the time they get rust and that black crap that gets on all of them. (*crap* Technical term for that black stuff.....:)
We of course need rain very badly, possible it may rain next week..I won't hold my breath... I will water some today.
So back to the weeding. Its a good day for it...

Another day of cutting back and weeding yesterday. I am still pretty fast at the cutting back part, it's the picking up I am slow at..Besides I don't like that part...:)
Today is over cast and not real warm, so I may not do much out there, I am after all a *fair weather gardener* good thing I live where I do.:):) So I will work on the potted plants , they all look pretty sad ~ need some perking up...Gee that means I may have to go by a Nursery.....Oh well if I have to ~ I have too.....;)
Happy Trails to you.....

Full day of gardening yesterday, All the roses are cut back...yeah!:) thats done again for awhile.

Then Jay helped me *stump* the older avocado tree, took it back to 4 feet tall, all branches cut off it. They are like weeds and come back very rapid. I then fertilized it well, then watered it all in for 2 hours.

Still have some more tree & rose cuttings to pick up, that will have to wait, as it is raining today. Yeah!:) And the garden does need a good soaking..

There are so many bulbs pushing up in the garden beds, I am getting excited it see the blooms of each of them. Some of the smaller ones are blooming, I cut them, as the rain will knock them down. Look nice in the vase. I will take them to a friend this afternoon, I just know she needs a little bit of flowers in her life right now..

I had just started on weeding again, with this rain they will be more than out of hand once again...
I can see whats in my gardening future.....:(:(

All the Clematis are budding out I just cut them all back hard, now they are getting ready to go again. Finally some are really getting big, Hope EJ doesn't forget to let me know when the big Clematis sale goes on ~ up near where he lives...:)

All the Violets are blooming nicely...They are now becoming ramped in so many of the beds, very hard to get rid of them...But so pretty when in bloom.....And to think I didn't even plant them in the first place. A Garden mystery!!! The birds did it....:).

Great day in the garden today! Lots of picking up and raking up..Way more weeding -not the fun part- Hope to get a bunch more done tomorrow too.
The *big rain* what a laugh..all it really was ~was wet!!!! Cant say it was really any help, just made the surfaces wet...
Planted seeds, Sweet peas, cilantro, sugar peas,
poppies,Forget-me-nots, a few others I had in envelopes that when I gathered them I just knew I would never forget what they were....right!!!! They will be a surprise..
Also dug up seedlings of Queens Anns lace, marygolds, & rudbeckia transplanted them. The larkspur has seeded its self every where, mostly in the paths, I got tired of trying to transplant them..I just pulled them...
Then there was the episode with the gopher, he wasn't happy with me in his flower bed...He isn't with me any longer.Pop his head up one to many times.
There were so many birds in the garden today, I loved it. Specially the Gnat-Catchers, they were twittering and zipping all over catching little gnats. I think Spring is on its way here for sure...Also had a flock of wild Canaries, and Finch go through yesterday and today, so glad I left the cosmos with the seeds on them, they love those...I sat and watched them for awhile..

Another good day in the garden, more of a lazy fun day. Oh I did get all the trash can filled with all the cutting-backs.
Yet I also took some time to enjoy the sunny day, the birds, the bees along with waving at the neighbors as they went by, calling out encouraging comments to me..
Sat out and watched the bees so happily buzzing in the flowering Pears tree.. It has burst into almost full bloom in the last few days. Quite a sight to enjoy...:) I can hear the buzzing, here in my office, there are so many bees working it.:)
Sprayed for weeds, also pulled many more weeds of the larger kind. I do have quit a crop of them....:(
Hoping for rain...that is always a hope here where I live......I keep the dream alive...

Ahhhhh Just in from a couple of hours in the garden. Mostly just fussing about, changing a few things around. These nice days gives one 'Spring fever' :):)
Have some ground water surfacing up near the back patio, must keep an eye on that. I suppose it will involve some digging to fine the reason for it.If it isn't one thing it's another.
Time now for tea, a hot shower, then a nice glass of wine with dinner..
