I feel so guilty to write what a great day I have had in the garden. I read about all the ones that are snowed in and can only start seeds. Sorry Garden Buddies.:(:( Mostly I did more major clean up.Raking - raking - raking..weeding - weeding - weeding.. Sprayed all the roses. Sprayed roundup on the weeds in the paths. Just a busy girl today. Now its time to rest. There is plenty left for tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that and the day.....Never mind!!!! I know the deal...:) |

My My we are having a slight Santa Ana condition going on for us here. I understand it is worse in the LA area. We are on fire watch (again).how eerie is that, here it is suppose to be Winter, are rainiest time of the year.... We have had a smidgen of rain, we are having Santa Ana's and Fire watch. Only in Southern California. While the birds are trying to start nesting.. Bulbs are blooming, and the garden is alive with blooms. So in the mean time, I am building a new flower bed.........why not????? Picked up some blocks to edge it with, so this will be my project for the next few days. Or at least while this nice sunny weather hold out...

Yeah......We are having real rain....It is soaking the garden..... the fertilizer is being soaked in so very well. I am so excited about it all. I hurried, to get all the Lily bulbs planted that I bought the other day. You know how those things just jump right into you baskets. Why fight it, I say :):)....:) I didn't get some of the plants that jumped into my basket planted, so will wait until this rain is over. It will be easier to dig...Were suppose to have a day or two between storms. Really having a gopher problem..I'm working on that.... |

It is full on Spring here at my garden. The Heat as already did in most of the tulips and the Daff's. The roses have come back nicely should start blooming in another week or so. Ranunculus are blooming very well, I am happy to have so many of them all over the garden. The Freesia are blooming every where also, they sure have multiplied I know I didn't plant as many as I have blooming. It has been just over a month since I have added to this journal. Sure hope it won't have to be so long in between post again.

What a day, Have had SBC tech here for 3 days, They had to dig up the old phone lines and replace them. Now those lines are good up to the connection box at the house. Now a different tech has to come and replace the lines in the house and the DSL line & modem.Whew! I have intermittent connection with net for right now. It will go off when ever it feels like it. They were very careful not to hurt any plants, bless them. I was so worried that if we had to dig up the huge rambler rose on the bank it would be a disaster, thankfully we didn't have to do that. I did a lot of weeding while they were digging.Just needed something to do...... Hopefully by tomorrow it will all be over and done & OK. |

The computer works. Thanks to new phone lines, and a lot of help from the tecs..... I was able to weed just about the whole garden while they were here fixing things. Just for something to do..It's cooled down dome from the heat we were having. Figured it would once it did in most of the Daff's and Tulips. We may or may not get some rain this weekend, never really know. Be nice if we do. Need to fertilize the upper beds, will do that in the AM. I am so happy with all the Ranuculus that are blooming now, so very pretty. They also photo so well. Time to hit the hay. Nite all. |

Yesterday got up to rain from the heavy marine layer, this morning it is sunny and clear. That is par for Southern Calif. Did get the upper garden fertilized, the rain watered it in nicely yesterday. Now I need to do something about the snails. I have been using 'Sluggo' as it doesn't harm the birds'. But it does turn to mildew looking stuff after a few days, doesn't seem to do much about the snails. So back to the drawing board on that. My early garden walk this morning tells me.......More rose bud will open today, the 'Heather' plant I thought had died, is in full bloom.:) what a neat surprise. It is still pretty little, but blooming. The 'Angelique' tulips this Spring were a big flop. Gophers ate more that half the bulbs, the ones that did come up and bloom were very different looking, not real pretty in my opinion. Also did not last as long as the ones I have planted on the past. So much blooming now, makes for a pretty garden. Now to get all the pots filled with fresh plants, for the front door. I will do that today. |

Worked in the garden as long as my back would let me today. It is one of those real clear warm days, with a mild Santa Anna settling in. Calling for the same tomorrow. Means I will need to water all the new plantings in well that I filled all the blue pots with. Tried my best to pick all the lemons from the lemon tree, it needs to be stripped, as it is blooming. Just could not reach all of them, Maybe I can get someone tall to do that for me.:) Put in the *Salsa garden* this morning, tomatoes, cilantro,& Peppers. Have to have that going. I was sitting out side watching the Sunset, The Trumpet Burg tree smell so nice I hated to come in.:)

Very good day to garden, didn't seem as hot as it said, it was 90. I finished the watering just as the sun was setting, another beautiful setting at that, with the sweet smells from the garden hanging heavy in the air. The roses are in bloom now, giving it all they have got. California Poppies every where, so cheery and bright. So much happening now, it's hard to keep up with it all. I was in the upper garden this morning, yet when I went back up there this evening, 2 clematis are in big bloom. It is so fun to see so much happening all at once. Maybe tomorrow I will take time to just sit and enjoy it. Nah.......... there will be more weeds to tend to.:) |

Hummmm, we are back to fog and over cast, Mother Nature can't seem to make up her mind what she wants to do. The garden is leaping and bounding into bloom, this photo is the front side bed. Very full. Tomorrow I will be hosting a Photo shoot class in the garden in the afternoon. Kids from the High School that take Photography. It is always fun when they come to do a class here. I can hardly wait until next Tuesday when I start a digital camer/photo class. Maybe after all this time I will learn how to use these camera.:) I HOPE! Today is an off day for me. I deemed it so because my fingers hurt from pulling weeds.....:)

Rain rain lovely rain, It is great. The flowers are loving it. I had a great time at the Big Nursery up the Hi-way today, in the rain.:) I was so happy to find a 'Queen's wreath' Vine 'Petrea volubilis'. It is so neat, in bloom too. I have been looking for this a long time, Another Nursery sold me one 2 years ago, which turned out to have a white flower, nothing like the one on QW. Now I will try to find out what the other vine is.
Computer is back, still has the same problems. Very annoying. This tech said the same thing the other 2 techs said. I just say, 'then fix it'..... |

It has dawned clear and sunny this morning, going to be a nice warm day. I was out early to cut a bunch of the Dutch Iris to take to a friend today. The garden smells so fresh with a heady perfume from the 'Trumpet Tree's make it heaven. Got the 'Queen's Wreath' vine potted up into a huge pot. Now to dolly it to where I want it to be. I do love that Vine. All of the Iris are starting to open, they are going to make the garden look real pretty for the next few weeks. Going to pull up some of the Dutch Iris, that have finished, dry them and relocate them. It is amazing how well they have all multiplied this last season. Some are coming up in places I didn't put them, must be the Voles and gophers rearranging things for me.I am thinking that is also why the Freesias are in so many places I did not plant them also.:) |

A long day of pulling the 'little' weed here and there in the garden. Pesky little things anyway. Did some planting too, put in 3 more Gardenias..Also moved a few things. I decided against trying to move the climbing rose, I should have done it back 2 months ago, forgot all about it, now will have to leave it another year. Still a little windy and a tad chilly........at least it is for me.... Can't wait to see the moon come up again tonight....it was so beautiful last night........:)

Cloudy and over cast again.. It usually waits until May and June for all this gloom......it is setting the 'Mildew factor' on high; early for us. The Iris are really making the garden look cheery despite the gloomy look of the day. No weeding today, going to get the rest of my Nursery shopping planted.:) |
