Rain, rain and more rain! So much for work outside. Wayne has continued working in the barn. He's talking about turning it into a shop when he retires (running a phone line out, water, etc.) We're expecting some better weather soon. Meanwhile I'm anxious to start the new flower garden and have some plants just waiting to go in the ground.
It's quite mild now, although we had a little snow on the Beaufort Range a couple of days ago, but it's gone again.
Today we said goodbye to our exercise instructor. The next time she swims it will be in the Mediterranean Sea. She gave us 'regulars' all a little gift.

I'm a 'grass' widow at the moment, with Wayne off to the mainland for a visit with his Dad and step-mom. When I came home from swimming today I thought I'd weed in the front garden for a little while. Don't know what the temp. went up too, but it was very warm in the sun. Did barn chores early, and brought all the laundry in off the line (dry). My neighbour mowed his lawn so it smells just wonderful outside!
Must write down the names of my nursery buys. I know one of them is Duchess of Edinburgh clematis. And the other is called Blue Bird. I hope it does well here. Lovely Spring flowers everywhere...even the Trilliums are blooming in the woodlands! A bit of Spring from here....

Must do a before and after photo of the new garden. We are mowing the grass, rototilling the garden and drying all the bedding on the line today. It's 'shirtsleeve weather' here today!

Wayne removed the last of the sod and we brought home a yard of topsoil for the new bed. Now we have to mix that with compost and manure, attach the new trellises and do a little rototilling, then my garden is ready for plants. The back yard garden will look so different when we're finished. I still have to purchase two climbing roses. Have never had climbers, so I need to read up on them before making my choices. This is lots of fun, but so much work. We've had wonderful warm weather, and can expect that right through this week. Our daughter had a high of 22º in Victoria.

One more load of topsoil and we're done with the new beds, and it's Wayne's last day of holidays. He's at a board meeting this morning and I'm off to swimming. We'll have one last push this afternoon and then I can start moving plants. Must remember sunscreen today. I have a sunburned neck this morning. Had no idea the uv rays were so strong already. Here's a couple of photos of our progress.

I'm itching to plant, but preparing the beds take so long. We brought in more top soil and steer manure today, but detoured to visit my parents and see what help they may need this Spring with gardening. So we've moved soil again today, but don't have the trellises up. I have plants to move from the deck box, and soil to mix and then...I can plant my sweet peas. There are banana potatoes to go in the veggie garden too. I grow them especially for potato salads in the summer. They always taste like 'new' potatoes.

Another day and I'm still playing with dirt and manure!! Soon..I'll be planting. We have good weather with us for a while, so that's great. I purchased Don Juan climbing rose today so there will be something striking in the far corner of the garden!

Managed to put some plants in today! And hope to put in potatoes on Monday. Have grand girls coming tomorrow with our son and his girl friend! And he has plans to upgrade our computer system to OSX. We are lagging behind in MacIntosh technology and need to catch up to the rest of the family! (Did I saw I'm exhausted? Bushed! But am so glad the gardening is coming along.)

Wee hours of the morning, and I'm trying to find some position that's comfortable. I knew I was pushing myself and frustrated that it seemed to be so much more difficult this year to do all I wanted to do. Turns out I'm in the middle of a flare-up with this connective tissue thing. So it goes. I'll just focus on enjoying our company. Lots of hugs, chats and helping hands for meals.

Hi there. It's nibbs, actually, using Bonitoad's computer because mine is down. The new system installation did not go as planned, and I have no start up now, and don't know when it will be repaired. Please, everyone, keep your fingers crossed that I will be able to retrieve the info off the hard drive because I did not back up my photos. Just said to Wayne two nights ago that I should burn them to CD, and didn't do it. Anyway, I'll try to check in from here every day until we're back up and running. Looks like I missed a very busy day here! What a site!

I'm back! It turned out to be a RAM problem! What a lesson well-learned, though, about backing up important folders! First priority this week. I'm off to water, and, can you imagine, I'm hoping for rain. We are so so dry here. Already have first forest fire on the mainland, in Youbou. We just saw the water bombers up in the air after their winter break, and they're battling fire already.

We had a shower this afternoon, and then a wonderful rainbow! Our youngest daughter and her husband came up on Monday, headed home tonight. He did split the wood, just like he said he would...managed to do the whole cord this afternoon, and our daughter visited her grandparents and helped in the garden.
We had a great time with the grandchildren. They discovered some 'stackable' bubbles (a little dollar store item I had put aside for them) and they had a ball playing with them. Amazing little bubbles... Anyway, I took this photo on Bekah's pant leg. The bubbles were everywhere, and you could literally pick them up.
Can you see me taking the photo?

It started raining last night, and we had showers off and on today. Wonderful! And when the rain stops and the sun comes out, we have the most gorgeous rainbow, one that often ends in the middle of our intersection. How I wish there was a pot of gold!
I browsed in nurseries today, just breathing in that lovely scent. Bought two little plants and some seed potatoes (last of the big-time spenders). I had my hair cut today, and now my neck is sore.
Bonitoad's husband called me tonight. They were having fun with bubbles too.
It's very nice weather here on the coast, and we've worked our soil, weeded, made a new garden, but I'm still a bit leery of planting anything that's a bit tender. It is still early Spring, even if we do live in 'tropical' Canada (Derek's description).
Going to soak in the tub and relax! I really enjoyed my day!
Here's my last bubble photo...

I worked on the vegetable garden today. It's still early to plant but I did some edging and weeding. I had clothes drying on the line and, as soon as I felt the first drop of rain come down, I dashed to the deck and pulled my laundry off the line. Made it to the back door just as the sky opened. It was a race between me and the cats to get in the house! Even though we've had some rain, the ground is still very dry.
I'm hoping the weather is not too bad for the next few days so we can get a little more of the heavy stuff done.
I can hardly believe that most of my daffodils are finished blooming. It went so fast! And I have tulips this year! The deer seem to have different tastes this time and have been snacking on my bluebells and sedum.
Am bushed, and so thankful I'm not sitting in a damaged, grounded houseboat with no food tonight. I hope all goes well for Ej now and he'll soon have repairs done.

Wayne was making plans to turn on the sprinkler system today, and the heavens opened and down came the rain, so we'll postpone sprinklers for a while. I also didn't work on the garden at all. We went swimming, then met up with Wayne's fishing partner (he's 91 or 92...he doesn't know for sure) and his wife at the pool, and we went for lunch together. Came home to the rain. Smells just wonderful outside!
I thought I'd post a photo of my gardening fairy. I don't have a name for her yet, and I'm not quite sure where to put her so that I can see her often. I'm sure she'd drive my laughing monks crazy! I saw her at Cannor's nursery when we went for our weekend get-away, and she simply had to come home with me! She's been on the dining room table...

She has little wings, and big b...bs! Must take a photo of all of her! Look at her little curlers in her hair!
