I was so determined to finish up the edge of the veggie garden today I now have a sunburn on my neck! And I didn't quite get it all done, so will have at it again tomorrow. Almost there. It's actually the job I dislike the most, edging and weeding around the top where it stays in the shade mostly, even in the summer. So I had some lovely buttercups to feed to the chickens tonight! (We 'recycle' our weeds.) I sat for a while tonight and watched television, then discovered I had 'seized up'. Back to swimming tomorrow, and then gardening. |

We dug out all the day lillies, but I only saved a few. I don't like throwing away any plants, but these had multiplied so much I had no where to put them. I also divided up the perennial geraniums too. Now there is some soil to screen and I only have planting and watering left. I like the look of the back garden. The front... I don't know if I'll ever have both front and back gardens done, and the house clean at the same time. Tomorrow I see two of my grand girls. Their dad has more first responder training so I'll enjoy the girls while we wait for him to come home. We have good weather all week, it seems. So we're going to have to turn the sprinkler system on for sure. Bushed tonight. Hope I don't have to wait in the line-up on the Hump for too long tomorrow! |

Still working on the new garden, but it's been so hot! One of my new plants has wilted. Think it was weak when I put it in. But our weather has been incredible! I did get potatoes (some nice banana potatoes too) and onions in the vegetable garden. Wayne took out the lawn tractor and caught the blade on something immovable, so he had to pick up a new one today so he could finish. We went to my parents and dug up some of their gardens and spread topsoil and fertilizer so Mom is just about ready to plant a few things. My step-dad is not well and was feeling somewhat frustrated that he couldn't help with the garden, but they were both very relieved to see that the heavy work was done. I've spent the afternoon working on anniversary invitations. The computer work is so quick, but putting everything together takes the time. Almost done. We'll put all the sprinklers on tonight. As far as I can see in the weather forecast the days will continue to be above the seasonal norm. Yesterday we had it all, snow, hail, rain, thunder, sun, and wind, but in various places around the Valley, and then it went back to being warm. |

We had frost here on Thursday morning. I haven't put bedding plants out yet, so that was good. It affected my new clematis though. I suppose they were just too tender, so I'll have to wait and see how they do now. But I'll carry on with the vegetable garden tomorrow afternoon. I seem to be so busy these days. Had a look at a Chrysler 300 today, silver. Oh my! Talk about luxury! Even the gas and brake pedal can be adjusted! There's a seat warmer or cooler. And a Hemi! Bushed! |

Most of the vegetables seeds are in and I've been weeding the front garden. I have a little bit of morning glory there. It's always a pain to eradicate. And I'll shop this week for the bedding plants. They should be okay now. Our forecast is for more normal temperatures, showers, etc. The rhodo's are all beginning to bloom. My azalea is going to be spectacular this year! On a very personal note, our political climate is at a critical point and it's difficult to not be focused on the near future. I have family members who are caught up in this because of their jobs. It's a worry for many reasons. I can only say how thankful I am that I can spend time in the garden and redirect my focus to Mother Nature. So I'm trying to not hold my breath. Tomorrow is a big day for our province! |

Feeling a little better tonight. There's still no details on the latest news, but it's 'hopeful'. Here's the azalea, ready to bloom. And some of the rhodos.

Well, except for the beer shortage that will make itself well known this weekend, our province is pretty much back to 'normal'. Our weather is very Spring-like, with sun, showers and rainbows. The garden just thrives on this. Today I wandered around and checked on everything while Wayne mowed. We have a few birds reappear, too. The American Goldfinches are back. They are so bright. And the brown-headed Cowbirds can be heard again. And a couple of Grosbeak's are back at the feeder. Tomorrow I'll go back to the nursery and check out a few annuals. Now would be a good time to plant. My oldest rhodo is blooming in the back garden. I'm not fond of the idea of cutting it back, but it's actually too big now. It's gorgeous, and I've let it bloom, but think I'll have to trim one side so we can get up and down the deck stairs.

Almost packed the ready to go. We have a wait to get out of town, but it shouldn't be too long tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to seeing how much work they have done on the Hump. A weekend away from the sapsucker pecking on the metal box...wow! Everything is growing so fast! It feels positively lush out at the moment. I love this little Geum (I have the name written down, but not here at the moment). I think Bonitoad calls this 'Old Man's Whiskers'. I think it's a beautiful little plant.
I hope everyone has a great weekend! |

We're back! Had a wonderful weekend! Cirque du Soleil was awesome, and VIP is such a great way to go. Imagine starting the whole thing with champagne. I'm still amazed by what I saw. We had great weather, had a good visit with Wayne's dad and step-mom, and smooth ride on the ferry home. We were at the working site on the Hump when it was still light out, with little traffic, so I we stopped and picked up some rocks for the new garden. Wow! So much to do, must run. I've a weekend of photos and comments here at gardenbuddies to catch up on! But first, the fun stuff, like laundry, unpacking...paying attention to Kuna who did not behave while we were gone. Guess we need someone here at the house when we go away. |

I'm feeling like Phyllis tonight...just tired. My thumbs hurt. One of the smaller deer had a little stroll after dinner tonight and browsed around my new garden. He (I'm assuming) didn't seem to mind me taking his photo (will post tomorrow), or any of the noise I was making, and then he ran off across the field. I think the rest of the family sleep down by the fence at the creek. Everything is now planted in my veg. garden and the potatoes and onions are up already. Most years I don't even have them planted by now. Our weather this Spring has been very unusual. And there goes the sprinkler system again! Wayne and I are having such a time setting it up properly this year. I think we're going to have to have it set up by professionals again. Purrt's complaining about being in the house, but she's been playing 'revolving door' all day. I know she likes to prowl at night, but then she comes back to the house and wails to be let in, in the middle of the night. Not tonight... She'll probably wail to be let out... I don't think I can win this one. Will be hunting again tomorrow for a tree for the new garden. I think I know what I want, but have to see what's available. Bonitoad has been so busy getting ready for her garden sale. She divides her plants and sells them off just once each year, and her plants are very popular. I admire her energy and dedication. And I know it will be a relief for her to have the sale over. It's going to be a very busy weekend at Toad Corner! Time for a soak in the tub and off to bed with my latest book. G'Night |

I finally realized the cat wanted to sleep on the computer chair. That's what all the fuss was about. You'd think she was spoiled. Here's the little one having a good look at my new garden. I stopped at Bonitoad's today and took photos of the day lillies she's selling in her plant sale tomorrow. She wanted photos so people could see what the blooms will look like. So, here's the snoopy deer...
And this is Bonitoad's plant sale. Wish you all could stop by and have a look!
Not for sale...but just beautiful. I love apricot or peach anything...

I'm just popping in and out of GB's right now. This place is just a buzzin' right now! Must come back and read the postings with more time. We bought the lumber we need for the seating area and new gate in the back garden, and picked up the pink dogwood I bought. (I feel so rich!) And I'm almost done with the front flower gardens. I've pulled out half the hen and chicks...they grow like weeds here, and most of the little violas are composted too. They grow everywhere. So, I'm almost done. I have a feeling that once the garden work is at the point where I just need to do the upkeep, it will be time to paint the fences. I swam today, and then spent most of the afternoon chasing Solomen from the ditch in front of our neighbour's house. Unfortunately it's across the road, and Sol is not allowed over there. He has five acres on this side!! The second to last time I went and got him, I told him he would be spanked if he went again. It may sound silly, but he's a very smart cat...except he did go again, and he did get his bottom smacked. It upset him so much he wouldn't leave the house when I brought him back. He's over four years old, and I've never hit him before. I'd rather he had hurt feelings, than the alternative. It should take one more day to do the beds by the woodshed, and then I can start weeding the vegetable garden (won't take long). Our days are so hot now, and it would be very nice to have a little rain. This is most unseasonal...almost spooky. Okay, now the older cat is scratching the screen door to be let in. No sense yelling at her. She's deaf....really. Will be back later. |

Our internet access was not working so Bonitoad had a visitor last night just long enough for me to check out a few things at GB's. And tomorrow we're going Up Island to pick up our new computer (Yes, Greg, a G5 with a 20" Apple monitor). We thought we'd have to time our leaving town with the openings they have with the construction work on the Hump, but apparently they are not working right through the holiday weekend. (I sure hope they finish on time.) So, I have a new operating system to learn, but I am pretty excited about the new computer. We're hoping for rain this weekend. We are dreadfully dry here and it is already a problem. Must run. Sore knees, neck...just generally sore today. Am so glad the garden work is at the stage it is (just upkeep). I sure wish I could get comfortable like our old farm cat!! This was her today.. And she's quite alright. |

So here I am with the new computer, new keyboard, new monitor (20 inch) and I have a whole lot of learning to do. Thank goodness for Bearlee (our son) who is a whizz with Apple computers. We're still transferring from the G3 so I'm going to take more than a day or two to figure this out. We watered everything last night and then it rained! But not a drop at Bonitoad's. Will be back when I've learned some more, and my head aches less. |

I've had a day on my own with the computer and still haven't figured out how to edit then upload my photos. I had trouble figuring out how to use a CD...couldn't open the CD player. Did eventually realize one of the keys on the keyboard does it. Oh my! My age is showing. I'm using the latest Apple operating system, which is a little different than OS 9.2. Love the keyboard and the monitor. But I'll learn. I only deadheaded some rhodos today, and have still more to do. Perhaps tomorrow. And I'd like to do a little work in the vegetable garden. Really enjoyed the chat this afternoon. Dahlianut is very close to where I live. When we've gone to the States, we use the Blaine border crossing, and she's that close. Swamprose is just a little bit farther down the road...or I-5. Bushed... All this head work...and chasing cats with mice! |
