Well i guess its never late to start.. after reading all the interesting journals by u all... specially to mention Seil, DJ and Growit.. I've finally decided to start my own.. though m sue mine not be as good and extensive as urs bt still.. i'll try.. A li'l bout myself first.. M Yasmeen.. 22.. just graduated in interior design and looking forward to master's... And nw coming to our fav topic.. gardening.. well as i child i was always been fond of plants.. my parents grandparents have filled our home with plants but mostly leafy ones.. or few veggies.. and ofcourse a grape vine tht extends over a biig pergola.. so an yr ago.. i took over.. and my passion..Flowers.. i have always dreamed of having flowers n flowers n flowers everywhr.. so the frst thng i did.. take charge of wat was growing.. watering.. cutting.. fertilizing.. and basically it took me a yr to decide what to keep what not to what to add and my interest in gardening has increased like nvr bfore.. so now apart frm the leafy ornamentals.. i've added to my collection roses hibiscus ixora aster carnations pentas plumbago diamorphotheca linum etc to name a few.. last yr i bought seedlings frm nursery n grew them but ths yr i'm trying my hand at growing frm seed as i did hv some success with it over the past few mnths... So fr ths summer i hv sown *Sunflower *Sunflower (Double) *Zinnia -Giants -Bi-colored -Liliput -White -Purple -Scarlet *Morning Glory *Celocia *Cockscomb *Gomphrena *Gaillardia *Portulaca *Balsam *Cosmos *Ornamental Chilly Most of them have started to pop-up
:
Others want me to wait.. Oh else am i for Today i also removed all the extra shoots emerging out adjacent to the main stem in all my roses.. And fertilized the ones in pots with an Organic Rose mix.. I've tried this one before it gives good result.. Also planted a 8 more rose cuttings my Grandpa got from Palampur.. And oh.. the cuttings of a rose we planted few days back hv strtd showing signs of life.. Yipeeeee!! Its a Red Fragrant Rose my Grandma got from sum1's home.. Guess it was "ROSE DAY" for me.. Lol!! And i thnk yesterday as well.. as yest i spent the entire day removing and storing chrysanthemeum's planted in the same bed as this rose.. And then it was major weeding time.. Finally its done and looks like this...
I've sown some seeds in the soil nw.. as it vl be some time before i need the area to transplant something in.. I'm thinking from the above mentioned list which annual will be most suitable to grown around this rose.. Suggestions plz.. I counted the total rose plants we vl be having for next winter.. Around 35.. Did i mention i'm Oh-so-Happy abt it:) |

I have a fondness for "Love-in-a-Mist" annuals(nigella) around roses..they are airy and come in pinks, whites and especially blues and are just the right height. In some repects, they make the roses look like bouguets from the florists..you know..all wrapped with baby's breath....anyway, if you can grow those plants from your list, you can easily grow nigella..and if you need seeds, I have them (blue) and will be getting many more this summer! (they self seed readily but are not a nuisance). |

Thankyou for the special mention Yasmeen! :) Your journal is so sweet and full of Spring promise with all those little seedlings popping up. How exciting!! Lovely job on the bed in the photo. Not a weed in sight. I am with Stephie on the 'Love in the Mist' underplanted around the roses.
and so eloquently put Stephie :) Linums too are good for underplanting anything with not so attractive bottoms! One of my favourites because of the true blue colour and the lovely foliage. What are your seasons like Yasmeen? I presume you get no frosts but what are your max and min temperatures? |

Thank you for the nice compliment, Yasmeen. Isn't it fun to see all the little babies start popping up out the ground? You've done an amazing job and your garden is certainly looking lovely and healthy. I look forward to reading more about it here. |
How sweet of you to mention us! I agree that it's never too late to start a journal. My grandmother gave me one eons ago and I tried to use it, but it just wasn't my style at the time. Now I see how useful they can be and sort of wish it had been my style all those years. LOL. I was so surprised and excited to see a journal from you. I just can't wait to keep up with how you grow all of these things in your climate. Which Gaillardia did you pick out to grow? Your beds are looking gorgeous. |

4th March'08 Well no gardening today.. but bought a few containers for transferring my new succulents into.. and a cute li'l container.. wonder what am i gonna put in it.. 5th March'08 The weather is gettin hotter day by day.. I dnt really mind the strong sunshine as long as it helps my flowers to bloom.. (Ppl think i'm crazy to like this weather and even wait for summer) Watered all the containers today.. When i have to water them all then i realize how many i have collected.. And thts the only time i wish for fewer!! Had the first hollyhock bloom of the season today.. Its so white and so beautiful:)
And oh i'm also planning to start a herb garden.. and make herb baskets.. and gift a few.. Herbs to put in i dnt know yet as apart from few common ones.. its diff to source the seeds.. nobody stocks them in this part of the region.. thinking of gettin them from another city.. vl be easy as my bro lives there.. Can anybody help me out with herb selection? 6th March'08 Watered the garden today.. It was a battle b/w me and my hose.. lol Its gettin really really hot.. The succlents are in their containers now..
And thrs one similar container empty.. It looks so sad w/o a plant:(
And so do these pots whch held these succlents earlier.. I'll hv to find sumthng to put in them soon..
Guess we gardeners just cannot tolerate an empty pot.. Sumtimes i see one inch containers(yes..1") and i want to plant sumthng even in them!! I also looked for weeds in my garden today.. But wait.. not to kill.. but to plant.. Call me crazy but i was lukin for a particular purple flowering small weed whch i thot vl "Look Good" trailing in tht small container i bought(u hv full right to call me crazy).. but i thnk it vl look cute..
With spring coming up its a treat to wake up each morning and look at all the fresh blooms.. The cineraria is doing gr8 and i love to look at ths poppy..
The Dianthus is of partiular interest to me as it springs up a new pattern each day..
The fact tht i'm growing all these flowers from seed myself for the first time adds to my pleasure even more:) For tom its seed hunt in the town.. I really need to grow those herbs!! }}}} |

You poor thing. Did you know you were going in or was it an emergency? Appendicitis or peritonitis possibly? Whatever I hope you heal as quickly as possible. Must be so frustrating just looking and not being able to garden.
Now here is a garden without any weeds/deadheading/pruning to look at instead! |

i hope so too.. its jus too terrible to be in bed all day and thnk abt my gardening activities.. i had soo much lined up and the seedlings r gettin bigger.. need help nw to transplant them so tht atleast i recover to c summer blooms.. well it was an emergency.. startd with severe stomach ache and came to know a portion of my intestine had formed loop and blocked the passage.. So it had to be removed thru surgery.. Thank God i wasnt on a trip as i was planning.. Got a new life as every1 says.. And i'm so very thankful for that! Please i request every1 to take care of their health and not ignore even small pains as i did "Now here is a garden without any weeds/deadheading/pruning to look at instead!" The garden is beautiful!!!! I love it.. V sweet of u:) |

I'm so glad you're OK, Yasmeen. You take it easy for a while and make sure it heals well before you get out there in the garden. The garden will forgive you. I love all your dianthus. I grow a lot of those too. I found out they will winter here and they make such good under plantings for the roses, not too high and lots of blooms, just right. |

I just saw this Yasmeen. I think I know just what you had. My old daycare provider had it and the surgery corrected the problem. Am so glad that you had surgery to correct it and that you will be better soon!! I just love looking through all your photos and hope that you will be up soon enough (as soon as you heal)! Here's another weedless garden for you. That Moira is so cute!

I love these weedless gardens.. Jus what i need.. And of course ur wishes.. Thanks a ton! Not possible to keep my fingers away from soil for long.. So watever movement or exertion i'm allowed is dediated to gardening.. The seedlings i strtd got so big by the time i got back from hospital that they just had to be transplanted now.. So hired help and got the work done.. What a disappointment to not be able to plant myself but a relief that atleast i could get them planted in time.. The zinnias are showing buds even before i could get a chance to pinch them and one has already flowered.. Too early compared to last year but whoz complaining!
Got my sis to pinch them though.. And tried to pinch a few of them myself but it was just too exerting.. My illness has converted many non-gardeners to gardeners as well as photographers as i just cannot take any load or even stoop.. So all my cousins are sweet enough to help me watever way they can.. I teach they do.. I find that quite amusing but at the same time i realize how much they love me and care for my passion.. Dad used to take pics and show them to me in the hospital to keep me happy.. And my cousin made these lovely bunches for me from my garden..
I have actually started bringing my garden indoors if i cnt go out much.. A bucket holding Bells of Ireland is lying in my room that i plan to cut and dry.. Cudnt bear to see them fading in the garden.. Sumbody asked me one day if this is a sort of therapy.. lol.. For a non-gardener no it isnt but for ppl like us.. yes it is!The calendula, marigold and cornflower has been replaced by Sunflowers and zinnia.. I'm so sad that i cudnt save enough calendula seeds.. Cnt help it:( Oh what plans i had for ths summer but its so depressing to think how am i gonna execute them.. Big question mark! Things keep revolving around my head and just just cannot do any of them at the moment!!!! All the gardening i have done is planting a few seedlings in containers that were at a good height.. Could reach easily.. And before i went to hospital i'd jus started with rosemary, dill and nutmeg so i spray the containers each day.. Some consolation:) What else have i done.. hmmm... lemme thnk i keep forgetting.. wonder if the docs took out my brain too during the surgery.. though my bro is doubtful abt me having any to begin with;) Lots happening in the garden right now but nothing i can control.. The hollyhocks have grown huge.. The best part of being ill.. I got loads of beautiful bouquets.. Thay were a treat to my eyes in the hospital... Whenever i go for chkup the doc enquires abt my garden too.. sweet:) Maybe thts the reason i like tht doc..lol Oh yes.. i rem.. this monday on my way back from hospital my bro took me to a nursery to cheer me up.. So how could i come back empty handed.. Got 5 new roses, 3 pentas, 1 crossandra.. Here are the roses tht my bro helped transferred to pots for me..
The earlier roses too are going crazy blooming..
