ROFL! |

Oh, don't get me wrong, it is not easy at all. Normally I would have tons of trouble not eating any...I don't have the money to buy clothes & I am at that point where I've just got to quit eating so much and if I let it go any longer it will get out of control. I will more than likely still have a piece of cake or whatever, but try my hardest to have just 1 (small) piece. I put the cake/desserts in the kitchen at work so I don't look at them all day. Everyone else that goes in there usually cuts a piece off here & there. I don't know who puts their grubby hands on what & what they do to the cake (like maybe there are those kind of people that lick the knife & put it back), so that pretty much makes me not touch it. (I make sure to get the first piece. LOL). Part of the reason I gained so much weight was from eating half the cakes/desserts myself! |

I got off work a little early today. Went home to find more water in the basement than usual. It must have really rained hard while I was at work. I got most of my pots ready for my seeds. I decided to do everything in the 1st fl. kitchen this year. It was a lot easier. I decided to open the blinds so I could look outside while potting (well, I wasn't doing both at the same time b/c I'd spill the soil all over for sure! haha--I know, bad humor here)...Anyway, for the first time, I got to see all the different birds at the bird feeder. It was fun to watch them. I was all ready to sit down at the kitchen table to start on my seed chart & wouldn't you know I can't find the chart I printed the other day at work (b/c it is on 11x17). I looked all over for it but could not find it. I am so mad. Where did I put that?! Grrr... Since there was a break in the rain & the ground was wet, I took the opportunity to do some weeding in the beds before it got too out of hand. I saw more bulbs start to come up & wanted to take some pictures when I realized my dig. camera was in my truck...at mom & dad's. I decided to walk to mom & dad's to get my truck to bring back home. I think I will park it back on my street since the neighbors across the street moved and there is more parking now. Wouldn't you know the only neighbors I really got along with moved. I got to mom & dad's & helped the kids with their homework. I tried to hold back from logging onto the computer while there, but here I am. But now, I am off to find more work to do! |

Not much time to post today, but just a note to myself that the tulips at the front porch bed are starting to come up (ones in the back row, middle). |
Ooooh, lucky you, spring is on the way! Yay! I was in the grocery store yesterday and saw fresh Brussels Sprouts, Asparagus, and [OoGBoO] other spring veggies (don't remember which ones!) and thought someone in this country somewhere must be starting spring. Yeeee! |
| Flowerfreak Posted on Monday, February 11, 2008 - 03:32 pm: | |
To be honest, I was surprised to see them. I thought maybe it was because I planted them too early! LOL I didn't realize it (spring) is just right around the corner |
It does seem sort of early for your zone, but maybe they like being up against your house. I probably won't be seeing any tulips around my house until May. |
(in bloom, that is; don't know when they actually start to pop up) |

I thought it was pretty early for them and wondered if it had anything to do with the crazy weather we've been having. Now I just hope they make it to the blooming stage...right now they are covered in ice! We were "supposed" to get 3-5 inches of snow. Instead, we got about 1/4" of snow & the rest ice/freezing rain. Oh joy. I will be skating to my truck when I leave work this afternoon! |

Monday, February 25, 2008 Called 2 tree trimmers & they were both able to give me bids today. The first one was double the amount I thought. The second one was about $150 or so less. I was so excited about getting the tree taken out, then that was crushed by the bids. DH will try to call someone 1 more time to get another quote. I really wish that tree was out of there so I could have my veg. garden & area for transplanting. I was getting pumped up for it & now my excitement is dwindling :( Thursday, February 28, 2008 Went into work for only about an hour today. I had planned on taking off ½ day in the afternoon, but was offered/able to leave earlier. I was going to start my seeds, but ended up cleaning out storage closets, throwing out a bunch of stuff, etc. Cleaned for about 3 hours for Tina, then went to mom & dad’s to see the kids, as they would have been just getting out of school. I thought I’d see if they wanted to go for a walk since there was a little break in the weather. I picked a bad day to be a jokester & sneak in the house quietly & scare them. When I got there, I found out there had been a lock down at the school. I could see the fear in each of the kid’s faces, as they were huddled in the back room with my mom. It turns out the lock down was a false alarm. I wasn’t planning on staying long & was going to go back & work on my seed starting, but decided to stick around & try to take the kid’s minds off of what happened at school. I actually enjoyed myself, helping them with homework, eating snacks, playing basketball, eating snacks, bandaging their paper cuts & what nots, eating snacks, helping the youngest try to do a cart wheel...oh and eating snacks! lol For once, I had a good time taking off work and not feeling guilty about just doing something fun. I didn’t get any seeds going, but I still have time to do that in the next week :) Friday, February 29, 2008 Talked to the roofer today & mentioned I needed someone to nail a piece of outside trim on my dormer for me. He offered to send his guy down to take care of it for me. I will believe it when I see it. I wish I had a way to just fly up there & put this one little board on & be done with it! Then again, if I could fly, I’d have flown up to that darn tree in the back yard & cut it down too. haha |

Noticed more tulips beginning to come up- in front of chimney area. Nothing in the front grass bed by neighbor though. SK's daffs are coming up also. Deer or rabbits have been eating the liriope (by front sidewalk)down to the ground. Reminder: Need to get another azalea |

Planted some seeds on 4th & 6th- all marked on calendar. Yesterday I finally saw some bulbs sprouting up in the front grass bed!!! YAY! I thought they might not come up. I also noticed the first crocus bloom :) Put Bulb-Tone on all bulbs yesterday. Probably a week or two early, but it could end up it was yesterday or never. Went to home & garden show yesterday afternoon. The garden displays were pretty, but most of them really were the same, in the fact that 99% of what each landscaper used were tulips. I forgot to take my camera, but there wasn't any hardscape displays in my price range anyway. I did get a tree co. to say they will come & give me an estimate next week on taking my tree out. I will feel better getting at least this 1 more estimate. I bought a bleeding heart to try in the front bed (well, that is my idea for the time being, it is always subject to change at planting time). I also bought some cantalope seeds. |

Bachelor Buttons & salad greens are already sprouting--only took 4 days! Moved the salad greens to the secondary green house. We got about 1.5 feet of snow and have been shoveling a lot. I went ahead & shoveled the sidewalk on the side & back of the house so that would be less water in the basement when it melts. Did some house work today before I came over here to mom's for brunch. I have been very very tired lately and was moving slow cleaning, but I was getting somewhere. I need to go to my sister's & clean today, but am just not motivated. I don't know what is wrong with me. I don't want to do anything anymore. |

I was looking at some of my landscape pics from the past few years & noticed how nice & perfect the heucheras looked a few years ago. I don't think they looked that good last year. It might be time to do something with them. I also think the white impatients in pots on the front steps looked good. I might have to do that again this year since I haven't done it in a few years. Before I left the house this a.m., I checked on the seeds again...now I have tomatoes sprouting...wow, everything is coming up so quick. I know I started some things a bit early, but I got impatient. Hopefully I'll be able to keep everything alive & well by transferring time. I am so excited! I have saved almost enough $ to get the tree taken out in the back yard & I think I will be able to have my own garden this year!! I just now made a decision on a new type of entry each time I make a journal entry in here...a "Diet Status" entry. I think I might watch what I eat more if I see what I eat in "black & white". --------------------------------------- Diet Status: VVG today (so far) -oatmeal/milk for brkfst -R. tea, water -HC soup w/ crackers for lunch -1 pc gum -1 mint So far I haven't had to have any "real" snacks today, and I've even been a little bored at work :) I think I deserve a flower for doing so good on my 1st day, lol ...remember, one day at a time, save your $ (and you have a ton of clothes you need to fit back into this summer! Not to mention all of NF's basically new jeans you have collecting dust!) |

Tuesday, March 11, 2008 When I got home from work Monday I noticed the refrigerator making a weird sound every so often. I got home late from bball & went & pulled it out & took the panel off. I found the compressor not working & the food starting to thaw out. Since the 1st fl apt is still unoccupied (b/c DU's storage), I plugged in that fridge & after a couple of hours, hauled all the food from the 2nd fl. fridge to the 1st fl. Called a few appliance places yesterday. One Co. can't get there til next week & the others couldn't really give me an answer, one never called me back & another wants $75 just to look at it, and it is non-refundable even if they end up doing the work. Joy. I have decided not to be in any hurry to fix it since I do have a working fridge and need to get that darned tree taken out. No bid yet from the last tree service. I wonder if they will even come out? Since all of the snow has about melted, I did notice the orange tulips that are coming up in the cutting bed. That was so good to see b/c I was afraid they may have gotten too waterlogged. I am getting excited for spring, although that is about the only exciting thing going on. -------------------------------------- Diet Status for yesterday (Tuesday): Good -oatmeal/milk for brkfst -frozen "dinner" for lunch -100 cal pk cupcakes at KH's, 3 Easter Egg milk balls -bites of cheesecake at mom's--shared small slice w/ the kids (before dinner of course!) -ff pud, soyjoy, slice of bread & Ham Help at SK's Walked to KH's to clean. Surprised her & put up window blinds for her in JH's room. She was so happy. Walked to mom's from there. Helped Dort w/ her school project, gave her a grow light bulb for her other school project (each of the students got a small cabbage plant & the one with the largest(?) plant at the end of contest wins. Walked back home. |

For some reason, I can't resize my photos to post. It has to do with my computer at work, not GB. I had everything all ready to go & I can't post...just aggravating. Since yesterday, we have already gotten 3.5" of rain (as of 8am today), and it is STILL raining! I got home from work yesterday to check the basement for major water leaks...ended up pouring concrete at the basement steps landing & re-sloping it so it went towards the drain better. I am SO glad I did that now. There is a constant stream of water pouring in from there & now it is directed to the drain/pipe, rather than all over the floor. All of the other usual places are leaking though. I knew with this much rain that was to be expected :( I planted some marigolds last night & planted some more seeds in the containers that had a few that didn’t take. Very tired today; had a late game last night, then I couldn't sleep so I read a magazine. All in all, I think I got 4.5-5 hours sleep. This rainy day isn't helping...and they say we could get snow overnight. Joy. SPRING WHERE ARE YOU?! Went refrigerator shopping yesterday...the 3rd quote I got to repair it was over $500. I didn't find anything I was looking for that would fit, so I guess I will just hold off awhile longer. ------------------------- Diet Status....doing ok I guess. Good days & bad, but not too bad. Weighed myself this morning for the first time in a long time....boy, did I jump off of that scale real quick! My goal is to lose 25lbs. this spring/summer. To me, it sounds like a lot to loose, but if I can loose 5 lbs a month, that would get me at my goal by August. I have GOT to stick with this!

I finally got all of the wood from the tree hauled out last night--just in time b/c it started raining overnight & is supposed to continue until Saturday. It is already so wet & soppy out. I also got some yard work done yesterday: -cleaned out all of the front beds -loosened the mulch -cleared out leaves -cleaned up the heucheras -cut back liriope & assorted grasses, as well as all of the grasses in the back yard except for the ones around the a/c unit & at the corner of the fence Aahhh. I already feel so much better getting a head start on it all, and it looks 100% better just from that little clean up. It was a beautiful day yesterday. Not too cool & not too hot, with a slight breeze to keep it comfortable. Unfortunately, I had to stop the yard work to help DH move & haul a bunch of furniture for his aunt/cousin. This morning I am feeling the results of all the bending & lifting! I think the only good thing about all of this rain is that it is here today & not yesterday! It will also force me to "work" inside when I get home tonight & that normally means playing with more seeds & plants :-) |
