April 24th,2008.Some of the carrots and radishes are starting o sprout now.The arugula finally came up but none of the bibb lettuce.Potted up the two fuschia plants and the two hollyhocks that i finally received and they are doing great.Everything that i winter-sowed came up and are getting ready to be transplanted in a few weeks.I winter-sowed in milk jugs:zinnia, caledula, poppies, baby breath, balsam, asters, cosmos, bunching onion, chives, blackeyed susan and mixed butterfly garden seeds, also petunias, nasturiums and salad burnett.Have to start the cantaloupe, zucchini and cucumber soon so they will be ready to be planted out after frost date.

April 28,2008.Last few days have been cool and I didn't do much except check on my winter-sown containers and see if all was well. They are doing great, but have to get the bok choi out soon and into the ground.Which i forgot to mention in my first entry ,I also winter-sowed bok choi and cabbage. The cabbage needs to get out soon too,Tomorrow will be another cool day but Wednesday supposed to be nice..dang,I was yanking out dandelions and trying to remember if i still had recipe for dandelion wine,it seems such a shame to let all those flowers go to waste.
There are two fat robins by my front door pulling worms out of the soil. They know me very well by now, that if they hang around by front door sooner or later I'll throw them some wheat bread crumbs. How they love that.I have to remember to get a birdfeeder when i go into town Wednesday..And a big bag of birdseed.I'm growing sunflowers for the birds but it is months away before they flower and have seeds.

Almost 60 today and I went and got some more soil.Bought 5 hanging baskets to put nasturiums, and some of the other flowers in.Tomorrow is supposed to be near 70 so thats when I'll get out there and plant the bok choi and cabbage into the garden.I think i will put one of my fuschias into a big pot.The other fuschia goes to my sister who has a big yard and is looking for things to fill it up.

really nice day today.Spend a while pulling weeds away from the spinach seedlings.Transplanted the bok choi and trying to figure out where to plant the cabbage seedlings.I don't have many, just 8 seedlings but they need space.Guess I just have to get out there and start tilling again.Sigh...The violets are blooming like crazy.Going to seed the zucchini, cantaloupe, cukes and pumpkin into newspaper pots tonite. They can't be planted out here in this area until near end of May,so it gives them a bit of growing time.My tomato seedlings are doing fine in south bedroom and I won't make the mistake that I make every year by planting them too early and having to run outside every night to cover them in a cold snap.I'll just wait till it is consistently warm.
