Today was mostly spent weeding and deadheading. Very tiring tedious job..Also never ending here. I have started to pull out the hundreds of daisies that are every where in the beds, they looked perky and quaint there for awhile ~ now they look tired, frowzy, and messy. Spent the last hours sitting and enjoying. |

I am on a much needed break to cool off, I am taking out 2 Pink Jasmine vines, that are breaking the fence where they are planted. Also woven in them is a honeysuckle, that who knows how it got there. Both vines are full of spiders, dust and in general yucky stuff. It isn't an easy task.. One of my neighbors asked me what I was going to do with them, I told him if he wanted to dig them out he could have them. He will be over later to dig them..:) Good riddance. There is also a Lantana that has to be cut was back on that same fence, a bird planted that for me. It has now gotten way out of hand. Still need to get started on pulling out many of those daisies.. |

I am finished with the Pink Jasmine vine, They are now History! That was a bunch of hard work, Hope I never have to do that again.. I have started cutting the daisies back. This looks like it will take me a few days. I like reading about all the "Spring" gardens coming to life, much better than just doing the maintenance on mine. The Lilies are staring to bloom here in this garden, seems so early to me,Dahlias too. This weekend going to tour a huge garden here in Escondido, should be fun.:)
Here is what the fence looks like after the "plant removal" all the bare is where the vines were. What is on it now are Climbing Pink Peace, Climbing Fourth of July a Lavender trumpet vine and A night blooming Jasmine at the far end. The x%&^%# Lantana is at the near end..My next removal. |

Very breezy here today. Not hot ~ not cold, guess I could say just right..:) I took many photos from the garden today. I still have not really figured out the photo system on this new computer. I did something that really messed it up..Since I don't know just what I did, I really have no clue how to undo it.. But If I work with it, I can some times email photos..But not much luck posting at GB...Oh well there are so many real good photographers posting, there are plenty of photos to admire daily... Will need to get back to weeding tomorrow...:(

Weeding today, I should spray week killer on the paths, to much of a breeze blowing for that, will save it for early morning before the wind starts.. Dug up some of the weaker roses that have been in the garden over 2 years, they have not done much, so I will not waste precious water on them any longer. I put them out at the road with a sign saying FREE...They were gone with in an hour...I did label them so who ever got them will have some clue what they are...There were 14 in all. I have been able to cut back on watering to some degree.. What I have noticed is the Dahlia's are doing much better with less water. They are stronger, erect and do not need staking. Also the penstemons & other plants are also doing better with out so much water.. I love to water, so it is hard for me not to over water... Alas, the weed do just fine with or with out water.... |

The Garden will have to be on its own for a few days. Other than watering I don't feel up to gardening. It all looks OK right now. But oh those weeds will fill in right soon..
This fellow was going back to his home that I disturbed when I was weeding last Thursday.. A nice King Snake. |

Very warm and breezy here today,Did some putzing in the garden today, mostly in the shady areas. I am waiting for the sun to sink some in the West so I can go out and trim up The rose 'Contance Spry'in Connie' garden, it is sending out canes from the bottom like crazy.Looks affright! While knocking over & laying about on some of the lilies under it... I don't like that...:) |

Ah ~ did not do a lot on June 1 in this garden. It was more a day of just enjoying, and making mental notes of what needs to be gotten to. There is so much to be gotten to. This morning is foggy, much cooler. I will do some weeding today as I put Epsom salts out on the roses. They look like they are more than ready for it. The Lilies are blooming so nicely now, I am so enjoying them... Mostly I must get back to the deadheading, boy skip a day or two, and it all looks so frightful..Darn! |

Another day of deadheading done. It was a messy looking garden. Also pulled out most all the spent Larkspur..They are every where.. Then pulled some of the spent 'Love-in-a-mist' scattering its seeds up on the upper bank.. It looks good up there. Weeded until is was weary of it.. Tomorrow is another day, and I have the weekend just after that.. |

Going to take a rest from the garden this morning. Going out to meet friends for breakfast and a good visit. Will stop on the way home to pick up some potting soil, more bark for some of the rose areas, and a few plants for the pots I am going to replant. Yesterday I mostly watered, and enjoyed the garden. The tomato plant is setting tomatoes..Wont be long before I will be enjoying those with fresh basil...:) The chili peppers are setting peppers... The Chives are all over the herb garden, also have them in all the paths. The birds may be helping to carry the seeds about.. will have to spend some time getting rid of some of those.(The chives not the birds):):). Pulled the few onions, set them out to dry. The Avocado tree I stumped is coming back nicely. I did notice I really need to pay some attention to the upper veggie garden, it looks pretty sad.. Although the 4 year old Avocado tree is filling in nice and taking over much of that end of the garden bed. Also time to cut the rosemary back again, it is as tall as I am, and 6 ft. wide. Way to big... I just noticed, this is my 100 entry in this journal...WOW & & |

Moved a couple of roses yesterday. Re-potted a few pots, as they were looking a bit worse for the wear, look much better now. I really like the effect of the'sweet potato vine' in the pots. Walked around and made note of things I want to change. Tracked down fresh gopher holes and baited those, they are getting out of hand again. Also noted a lot of squirrels in the garden of late. Best keep an eye on them.. Then there are the CROWS..They have slowly become such an awful nuisance here. Every one near me says the same thing. There are hundreds of them.. Very unpleasent, along with the racket they make such a mess. Again this morning another dead rabbit in the front bird bath, picked apart..They are still feeding the young. The roof has become white with their excretion, as well as the walkways. Very very annoying. |

Pretty day today, did some dead heading, took a lot of photos. I am still trying to figure out just how to work this new computer deal. I think Nibb's is also learning her new computer. She is probably light years ahead of me.. I am waiting for it to cool a bit then I will go out and clean up along the drive way, with the heat all of the Nasturtiums have taking to dyeing back. Looks rather messy~Along with the weeds. Yesterday I tackled the middle bank bed, that one took me all day, as I had been putting it off. All cleaned up now, sort of looks rather bare now. It will fill back in before I know it. I must move some more of the Dahlias that are now in shade, they need more sun. The tree I planted up there 3 years ago has now became huge...Will have to start thinking 'shade garden'... |

Today I need to water, I have been trying to cut back the use of so much water in the garden. I have noticed that some things are doing better with less water. It also helps A LOT when I get the water bill...:) It is overcast and gloomy out this morning, They call it 'June Gloom' its this way every year...May Gray, and June gloom...We get 1 or 2 days of sunshine, and it is big weather news here, in the month of june. Have a lot of yellows blooming in the garden now...Rudbeckias, Yarrow, yellow roses, Coreopsis, ( I had no Idea there are so many different sorts of Coreopsis)... More cutting back things today also.. |

Hot and tired..What a great day in the garden...One of those where you have to undress at the back door! I looked like I wallowed in the garden rather than work in it...:) For the last 20 min I sat and watch my little birds that are nesting In one of my the worst birdhouse of the lot.. I am not sure just what kind they are but I think they are Little fly-catchers ~ Small ~ flit about very fast ~ catching flying bugs on the fly..Sure keeps Poppa busy.. Their little tails twitch back and forth very fast, they are just so cute...I am so happy they are having babies here in my garden... Now that I have had my shower, I am going to go sit out and watch the 'show' I think its the best show in town...:) |
