Better late than never, I guess. On October 16th and 22nd, I potted up several gifts of clematis seeds from some special Gardenbuddies, a few from trades and some of my own. This is my first attempt at growing clematis from seed. Over the Rememberance Day weekend, I was checking my pots, thinking I was still way too early to be seeing anything but the chick grit on the top of the pots, but to my surprise, three of the pots had a couple of sprouts. I probably should have caught them a day or two sooner, as they were quite tall and lanky. I took the pots out of the cold room and put them under my grow lights. Within a few hours, most of the stems were like a thin thread and flopped over. Not sure if they were the real thing, I email Brian a couple of pictures to get his opinion.
He confirmed that indeed they were clematis based on the type of seed labelled on the pot, but advised to put them on a window ledge instead of under grow lights, as they were getting too hot. As of this moment, I have only one stem from the Columbiana seed still standing. The other two which has shrivelled up were from Potaninii and Marie Boisselot. I will leave up in my kitchen for a day or two to see if any more sprout. Not tooting my horn yet. |

Sad to report that the first sprouts have all died. Hoping more will sprout soon. |

Sorry to say, no more clematis sprouting yet. Just took my "purple smoke tree seeds" and daylily seeds from the fridge today and potted them up. It's still way too early to start my usual annual seeds and Canna bulbs, so this will have to keep my interest for another while. |

It's only been 5 days since I potted up these dailily and purple smoke bush seeds and I have one pot of daililies sprouting, and one smoke bush seed. Wow

Now have 2 pots of daylily seeds sprouting, and 8 smoke bush seeds. Have moved my indoor shelving with lights to the wood room, where it is about 60 degrees, instead of 75-80 with the wood heat in the basement. Hoping the other seeds will still germinate with these cooler temps. |

I stopped at MacArthur's Nursery on my way home from work today (only a block from home). I asked them if they would order me Clematis Perle d'Azur and Rhapsody with their order. They took my name and said they would if their supplier carried it. Saves me from ordering it and paying the shipping charges.(fingers crossed) They should be in by end of April/ 1st wk of May. |

I transplanted my baby daylily seedlings into individual pots (actually a clear plastic glass), as well as the purple smoke bush seedlings. Gave them a drink of transplant solution at half strength. |

Feb 15th - I brought out my trays of potted clematis seeds from the dark cold room and put them in the wood room on my plant shelf (without the lights on for this shelf). The temp there is warmer 60-65. No windows in this room, but the two bottom shelves do have the lights on for the baby daylily seedlings and purple smoke bush seedlings. Today, stopped at Costco and bought a box of clematis, 2 Fireworks and 2 H F Young for $12.99. Sprouts already, put in cold room still in their bags for now. |

I potted up some white and some purple buddleia seeds, and put dahlia seeds from Marcia in damp coffee filters in a baggie on March 16th. Nothing from the buddleia yet, but the dahlia's are starting to sprout. Need to pot them up. Got some plastic glasses, and hope to have some for myself and my co-worker who is on a "Run for Cancer" team. Will bring the rest in to work and see if can raise a little $ for her cause. |

Put more seed of butterfly bush, sanguisorba M, lilac on top of soil in baggies without covering this time on April 3rd, as nothing came of the ones I planted 3 weeks ago. Potted up 3 Canna's today. The tray I had stored them in got water in it and rotted most of them. |

Lilac, sanguisorba, and canteberry bells sprouting. The pot I planted purple buddleia in has sprouts, but are very tiny, so not sure if that's what they are or not. |

I moved a one tray of potted C Wada's Primrose seedlings out to the greenhouse yesterday. It's been really cool again. Highs of 13, rain, drizzle, and lows of 8-9 at night. Forecasting sun and highs in the 20's next week. |

I can't believe summer is over again so soon. I brought my clematis seedlings into the basement under grow lights after spraying with an insecticidal soap spray on Friday night, Oct 7th. Brought my JMaple seedling in as well tonight. |
