DD, SIN and I had a lovely visit at Bonitoad's yesterday and came home with more plants. I wrote out the names...and, of course, they are not here. And I didn't plant them today. Had DD and SIN here yesterday and today. They tried to time their trip home with the 'openings' on the highway construction on the Hump. Highway construction time has been extended....lovely. We spent some time in the back yard before they left and, with their help, we had it all tidied up in no time. Wayne was so happy to have some help with the deck furniture. It's been so warm we've decided to set them up now. (It's raining tonight...go figure.)
So, I really must get the plants in the ground tomorrow...and work on transferring files and folders to this new computer.
I think I, too, along with Wayne, must be slowing down in our 'older' ages.

We're getting there...with the computer and the garden. My new garden has taken so long, but it will all fill in and look wonderful. I'm hoping it will be like a hidden garden when it's grown up some. Today I put in a few more annuals, and some perennials. Have planted most of Bonitoad's plants. I have a rose, without a name, although Boni will know what it is. I'll plant it when I know what it needs.
Our flowers are blooming so quickly this year, and it is a little odd. We're wondering what our gardens will look like in July when so many of the plants will have been blooming for so long already. I can remember going strawberry picking on July 1st, and the strawberries are ready now, a month early.
I just noticed the time. Must go. We have a new exercise instructor at the pool, and it is so much fun! We tend to forget we're exercising. Then I came home and worked in the garden for two hours. Supper...was kind of thrown together. Must plan better tomorrow.

I'm just popping in and out tonight. It's been hot today! I missed the meteor last night. Apparently it lit up the sky, but we've had such bright light from the moon I didn't even notice it (and I was up..had coffee at Bonitoad's late last night). We'e really enjoying our new exercise instructor, and had quite a workout. Then I cleaned out cupboards and scrubbed floors, groomed the cats, laundry, vacumm...you know, cleaning the castle! Tired myself out. Now I plan to work a bit on trying to resize some photos. Finally decided to go to the books to figure out the computer and some of its programs. When all else fails...

I was distracted last night and burned the back of my right hand. Dumb... However, it could have been worse. I met Bernie on chat last night, and DuckWatcher, and Wanda. It's raining here today, which is just lovely. Really, I'm very happy to see the rain. It's warm, but wet. Cats don't like it much but my plants sure do! I've worked on the photo editing, too. And think I have it figured out.

We had such a downpour yesterday when Wayne and I were trimming the lilacs. He put on my Dad's old rain jacket (Dad died in 1978) and carried on in the rain. Got totally soaked, but finished the job!
And today he did up the lawns again, and I edged the front. We mulched the onions and canteloup and I had a look at what needs deadheading again. My Sharifa Asma rose is blooming, and I would love to take in that gorgeous scent for a while. Every time I go in the back I have a good sniff of the Sweet Williams. Wonderful!
I need to get back in the vegetable garden for a bit to weed and dust a bit. But everything's growing well.
And we're sorting out the computer. I am not alone in trying to learn something new!

Most of the wet weather has, once again, missed us here on the Island. It's raining very, very lightly. The B.C. government has produced an interesting television commercial to urge residents of the province to be responsible while they are camping, or just in the woods this summer. The camera zooms in on a forest area, and when you see the dry ground, it is actually covered in wooden matchsticks, showing just how tinder dry the land is.
I weeded in the vegetable garden today. We are eating swiss chard, and lettuce from the garden now, and my sunflowers are growing! It was kind of windy here today and I had to tie up the Trumpet Vine a bit more. Need to support some of the new clematis plants. Tomorrow will be more tidying up in the gardens.
We've had fun watching all the baby birds coming with their parents to the feeders. It seems so strange to see young that look larger than the parents, waiting to be fed, and, each day I can see them maturing.
We must build something under the feeder by the house, though, because the young are scattering the seeds so much.
Will take my camera out tomorrow. I was a little surprised to see so much red in the new garden. Everything is still so small, but I wanted the garden to stand out with the blossoms now, to balance the back yard. It is definitely bright!

We've been invaded by rabbits! Our neighbour hayed this last week. Perhaps the rabbits are from his field. They're still small, but I counted seven in my yard! And when I left for Bonitoad's tonight, I saw three on the road. Hmmm.... One of them was in my vegetable garden. This is a new problem for us...well, for me.
We're still looking for rain. I went in the back garden today for a while, and had a good sniff of my Sweet Williams. Life is good!
I'm recharging the battery on my camera, so will post photos tomorrow. Bushed... what did I do today that made me tired?
Had a visit with my Mom and Step-Dad. He is looking so much better right now, after having some fluid drained from his abdomen. It was nice to see him cheerful again.
Bedtime...'night all

Wayne went sockeye salmon fishing this morning. His partner caught their first one yesterday and shared half for supper. It was so good! However, a message on the note board leads me to believe they we unsuccessful in their fishing this morning. It reads, "We left all the fish in the canal so they could get bigger."

This week is just flying by. We went down Island yesterday and were so lucky that we didn't have to sit in line-ups on the highway. Our timing was just right. And the road construction is coming along. I keep looking at the big rocks wishing I had more for my garden, only because they are such a lovely blue color.
And today has been hot. My garden veggies all fainted this afternoon. 'Kuna took himself out to the creek late this afternoon. Our neighbour has his hay cut so the cats are having 'fun' in the field. But I suppose this little guy (he is only 6 pounds) was too tired to walk all the way back to the house for supper. I ended up walking half way out in the field, just to carry him back to the house. He had his supper, and I flaked out in the living room, with the fan on. I still can't believe I actually walked out there and picked up a healthy cat and carried him all the way back to the house. Must be the sun on my head!!
Time for a cooling bath and back to my book. I'm sure the temp. will come down when the sprinkler system starts.
Okay, enough whining for tonight!

It's almost 11:30 p.m. and the temperature is still 28º C. It's been another hot day. We didn't have the thunder and lightning that Seattle experienced last night. Really don't want that because we are so dry here. We had a fire in town yesterday when a power line snapped and touched the ground in two places. Fortunately it was caught right away before the burning brush reached a residential area.
Was a busy, busy day. I came home from Bonitoad's tonight with some 'orphans' and will probably plant them on Sunday when it will be a bit cooler.
I was smarter tonight (as compared to this morning when I went to my sister's for coffee with mom and other sister) and took my camera. She has so many really different plants.
I'm off to finish my book. Then Bonitoad can read it. We love to share good books.

Thought I'd change my profile photo and age myself a little. I went from 7 years old to 17. Seems so long ago! I had to fiddle with the photo. My hair was only a little darker then. It was quite blonde (a natural color) by the time I was in my early 20's.
Hot today. More fires in the province. One on the Island.
I've turned on the sprinkler system three nights in a row. We tend to get a strong breeze in the afternoon and that just sweeps any moisture away.

The crows in our neighbourhood seem to have gone 'nuts' today. They were so noisy! But I talked with DD (her one year anniversary was today! Wow!) and she was saying they are nesting in the oak trees around the hospital where she works and they have been attacking people walking in and out of the hospital. The only thing security could do was post a warning. I'm guessing the crows are protecting their young, who should soon be ready to leave the nests.
I'm hoping it will be a bit cooler today and my back will feel a little better. I really must get some work done in the gardens. We may have our first new potatoes for supper ! And I need to check out the cherry trees too!

The sun and warm temperatures have been great for the gardens. We had Swiss chard for supper last night.
I haven't done my 'normal' stuff this week because of my back (and I hate complaining). After swimming (and I was careful) I went to the doctor's for a cortisone shot in my back. He uses a little bit of freezing as well so the relief was instant. However, it's not a cure and my back is still very sore today.
We adjusted the sprinkler heads tonight. Some of the garden has grown so much the area around it wasn't getting watered. All fixed, but Wayne was absolutely soaked by the time he was done. Dripping!
And he built a tray for under the bird feeder. The babies are scattering the seeds so much and they still usually wait for mom or dad bird to feed them. I have a photo of one little baby finch that is still trying to land on the feeder. He's missed and miscalculated so much he now has a feather that stands up straight on the top of his head. He's pretty easy to identify. And he's learned how to land on the top of the feeder, which doesn't help him much. Will edit photos tomorrow.
I plan a quieter day tomorrow and will check out all these marvelous postings today!

I had a wonderful time at Bonitoad's today and took lots of photos. So many of her day lilies are blooming and I just couldn't help but capture them. I did take photos of lots of her ferns, but couldn't stay long enough to get all the names. I did some editing tonight, as much as my back would allow. We have company from Montreal coming tomorrow so I had to do some housework.
I have one more photo of the new garden to take and I can say the garden is done. Well, done for now.
We have our water system man coming next week to pipe water to the barn. After all these years, and packing water out, we're going to get a tap. I'll take my camera out and show you why Wayne is doing this now.
