Second time out into the yard for clean-up, I always forget that it takes many more times than once to get the job done! I cleared dried vines off the gazebo and leaves from another section... the rabbits have been very busy over the winter, I don't mind the visits I just wish they wouldn't leave so many parting gifts.... it was exciting to find so many buds on the Magnolia, I hope there will be many blooms this year, I look forward to their fragrance. Also found growth on the Honeysuckle vine, the new delphiniums, beardstongue, artemisia? I always forget names of what gets planted ... and lots of tulips are coming up everywhere, most of the roses have signs of new growth. Evee was very playful today, it has to be hard coming from a warm Texas climate to be shut in most of the winter here in MN. So much more to do but I will wait for another warm day.

Hi Mary, Your puppy dog is so sweet. He's soaking up a few rays, is he (or she)? Like you, I am in zone 4 but haven't been as fortunate as to get to do much yard work. I envy you! Isn't it funny how we forget the plant names over the winter. It doesn't take long for the names to come back though. Enjoy your gardening days! Karen |

Hi Karen, Evee is a she and we haven't had many days warm enough to do yard work, hopefully this week :) I have just started a journal but I think how it works is that you post all replies on the special **comments** thread leaving the journals as diary format. New today are a few dark blue Scilla and I hope I get over this sore throat and cough so I can enjoy Spring!!! ...being surly and crabby just isn't my style

Warm enough to get out there with a sweater on, I burned the rest of the brush but tired too quickly, I had hoped to do more.... and I found someone who needs an extreme makeover, either that or he is suffering from a harsh case of sun-deprivation to which I can sympathise entirely!

Clean up is complete and the fruitless crab has had the first sulphur spray to cure it's fungus..eeew In another part of the yard it smells a little better with the magnolia blooming, tulips are blooming and so are the wild violets. I bought some Black Beauty crimson gladiolas to try. I have never planted glads before but they were a favorite of my Grandmothers so I'll think of her when I plant them. I'm supposed to be peeling wallpaper but it just didn't happen today... I better get back to work! BLARGH |

Planted more seeds today, Hannah brought home False Indigo, Larkspur and Rose Campion from WA (from the gardens of George Washington's Mt. Vernon actually) I sent half to my mother as they have a better chance with her. Also stopped at a local garden club's plant sale and brought home and planted; 2 tomato plants (Better Boy and Sugar Snack, Silver Ribbon Grass, Lemon Balm, Coral Bell, Rudbeckia Goldstrum, Prairie Dusk Penstemon Barbatus and Sundial Scarlet and Peppermint Moss Roses. The soil is so dry, I hope we get some rain later tomorrow. The petals are falling from the crabapple

The scrub lilac, some iris and bleeding hearts are in bloom. Some of the seedlings are up, a couple of trips to the garden center to get ready to do window boxes, now to wait for a warm day, today is rainy and cold. |

Hannah's window box is done and the front barrel planter, was cool but sunny later in the day, tomorrow is a running around day but maybe I will sneak in some more gardening. Purchased quite a few small perennials, I know the round table delphineums will probably just be rabbit food but by some miracle, hopefully they will make it to the blooming stage.

Evee just came down to say good morning, otherwise the house is quiet. As of yesterday, Clover's garden is done and the planter for the front steps. After getting my work done this morning, I hope to plant the rest of the perennials, sand and paint the patio's "coffee table". Lots of plans..not enough TIME. The weather today should be beautiful and it will be good to be outside. Lilies of the valley are blooming and the Azaleas.

Table is done and is an improvement. Raining today. The pink lilacs are getting ready to bloom, looking forward to their woodsy, wild-honey fragrance. Looks like the pumpkin seeds and the seeds from washington didn't make it. :(

I spoke too soon, one pumpkin seedling came up and it looks like some of the Washington seeds are up as well. The poppies have burst in the last 2 days, 2 sunny days in a row! The iris made a nice backdrop for Hannah's 8th grade graduation photos.
