One more area to plant, the walking stones have disappeared and need to be excavated, but that will be another day. The sun felt so good as I potted up some planters for my mom and brother, also potted up some iris for my brother and shucked? some dried tulips to share. The first blackberry was harvested today :) |

raining today ... a whole fleet of riverboats came up from the south, even in the rain it was a big ta-doo when they came by Harriet Island in St Paul with fireworks, helicopters, and people lining the banks and bridges for a glimpse.

Not able to get out into the garden much, too much renovation going on, my savings took a big hit to purchase reclaimed Douglas fir for DD's room, the icky particle board subfloor is going away. Now I don't feel guilty for this indulgence:

painting furniture today so out of the basement I was. Garden is blooming everywhere, the trumpet vines and morning glories are blooming already, summer is going too fast! The weather was very nice today..slacking off of work a little, but I guess that's a good thing to do once in awhile

Sweating buckets today~ index is 101! I really appreciated the good rain this morning, things were looking dry and I am too busy to keep up, garden is looking good, the blue delphiniums especially ~ Hmmm, I guess that 'slacking off of work' bit didn't last very long :) |

today is somewhat overcast and the front gardens enjoyed watching a half-marathon run down the street. Yesterday I tried unsuccessfully to photograph a grey mouse in the garden, I think he was teasing me and the butterflies were not co-operating either but I did manage to start and enjoy a fire on the patio. The dark gladiolas have buds, Hannah's peace rose has a bloom on it and the fragrant phlox are blooming~ picked the first tomato which will debut on a thread later this weekend. It's the little things!

So far the deep-red gladiolas have been blooming purple... not what I paid for, I cut them and some phlox and drove them out to Ft Ridgely (2 hour drive) where my Dad is buried... I picked up my brother on the way and he added some wild goldenrod to the bouquet ... Dad will like them, they remind him of his mother ...6 years

The black sunflowers are blooming~ Yay! something did what it was supposed to do. Life has slowed down enough for me to bring in a fragrant spray of phlox to enjoy in the kitchen. Now if I could only find a way to keep summer longer, there is already one tree in the neighborhood that has turned red and is shedding its leaves.. |

That darned tree is dropping its leaves now, but there are lots of things still blooming in the garden, the tomatoes are still producing and there are mum plants with buds, hopefully they will get a chance to bloom before first frost. The leaves in the trees are drying and it changes the sound that the wind makes as it passes through, very relaxing. I lit a fire and trimmed back some dead growth but found the morning glories hopelessly tangled over everything! That's what I get for being so neglectful. It does give a sort of unkempt beauty to the garden though so I won't get my undies in a bunch over it.

Baked some gingerbread, the house smells so good. I thought I would pick the rest of the sunflowers and headed out there in-between rain showers only to find bumblebees camped out on every one of them, I didn't have the heart to disturb them so I picked a few zinnias and the last of the Phlox instead. Made a nice bouquet and is a good rainy day brightener :) |
