We moved the sauerkraut to the shed because we have company comping tomorrow night. I need at least 24 hours to get rid of the smell.
Not good news at the doctor's today. However... there really must be an upside to all of this.
Am hoping to see grandgirls on the weekend. Am looking forward to getting step-dad's truck sold. Am looking forward to some resolutions. Am looking forward to my bath....

Our Fall colors seem to be at their peak today. Would have taken photos but it's typical November weather and a wet, sort of foggy day. But the leaves look very nice.
Had a wonderful day with our grandgirls. They are amazing. Will edit some photos later.
So, I'm just starting a whole new education on sugar diabetes. Not new to some gardenbuddies, but new to me. Kind of explains a few things. However, could be worse!
A cat is hollering to be let out...so must run. Will be back with photos. We watched the 3D Shriek (sp) movie yesterday. Poor Bekah had to keep taking her glasses off!

Here's a photo of Bekah ready to remove her 3D glasses in case a spider jumps out at her or Shrek pokes her with his finger!

We're finally canning the sauerkraut tomorrow!! We live in a rancher. No basement. No root house. No cellar. Oh my... But the whole family is looking forward to homemade sauerkraut again! Yum!
Today I had a lovely visit with Bonitoad and came home with a hoard of seeds, so I spent some time at the computer tonight, checking out photos and zones. I know I can grow all of them, but it's good to know these details for sharing!
We spent more time this afternoon looking for my clippers. We have never given the yard such a thorough search for anything (my toad lily is blooming! I found it under the horse chestnut leaves), but still came up empty. So, either someone walked off with my favorite clippers or I did an excellent job of putting them away!
Anyway, bushed... and a big canning day tomorrow!
'Night all!

Very windy here, very wet. Record rainfall! And the sauerkraut is almost done. Packing the jars went fast, but the water bath takes all day with the amount of jars we're canning. However, the taste is wonderful!
I talked to my FIL tonight. He's in Northern B.C. and said the rain they've had has washed almost all the snow away. Guess I won't be complaining about the rain and the wind. Wayne's heading up that way next Sunday and already knows it will be cold. Here on the coast we still have roses blooming.

Made a quick trip down Island today before Wayne went to work. Busy day, but our mission was a success. That's the trouble with out-of-town sales and shift work, and he's off to northern B.C. in two days. However... it all worked out.
I've been trying to figure out the colors for the new roof on the house next year, the color for the house, the fence, and what will we do with the walkway. Had a brilliant idea when I was half awake today... but don't think Wayne will go for it. So much work, but I like the idea of slate rocks for the side walk. Well, it's fun to dream but will have to do a lot of research and get some good estimates before getting my hopes up.
Spring bulbs are trying to come up... And I think the temp. is going down to -4C tonight, our first decent frost. Right now the sky is clear...of course, after the comet storm.
Must sleep tonight. Finished my scary book, and I hadn't guessed the right 'bad' guy right up until the end so I was a little shocked. Not a bedtime book for me...

I've just had a stroll through Thimble Farms web site (on Saltspring Island, just off Vancouver Island) and I'm afraid to start a wish list! Terry started all this, and doesn't even know it, with the cyclamen forum. I had no idea I would be so drawn to this plant, and Thimble Farms has many.

The first of the seed catalogs arrived in the mail box today, so I'm enjoying myself tonight, going through each page, pen in hand.
I'm on my own at the moment. Wayne's at the farm up north and has encountered his first winter storm. He only has his 'street' shoes, but did take a knitted hat and pair of gloves. Our youngest daughter and son-in-law fly up on Friday so I hope the weather improves for them.
I had planned to check out my roses today, but it was raining by the time I came home from swimming.
And swimming was wonderful today. I don't know what went on at the pool last night, but the water was so warm. It was just right for a therapy pool! The whirlpool was only 99º, which is a little lower than usual. It was nice to do an hour of gentle exercises without getting cold. However, those doing laps or more vigorous activities found the water far too warm. No doubt things will be back to normal tomorrow, so I'm really glad I went today. (I go every day anyway.)

I must have caught some sort of 'bug' going around. Have not been feeling well. Caught up on some reading and managed to make progress with the sweater I'm knitting. It seemed like a good time to organize my photos from this year too, and have been working on that.
We're still fairly wet here so I haven't spent much time in the garden. I see little Spring bulbs poking their heads up.... it's not time for that yet!

I am so tickled that I'm going to have one of Carol Evan's paintings in my home! She is my favorite West Coast painter. I fell in love with "The Swimmer" and decided to purchase the art work before it's too late.
We've had snow today. Not the dry, stay for a while stuff, but the thick annoying type that lands on the mountains only and shuts us off from the rest of the world. Most of the time I don't concern myself too much about the snow, but Wayne is due home tonight, and I know he doesn't have snow tires on the truck. He has all season tires, which are not the same. He just didn't get around to switching the tires before he left for northern B.C. I will be so happy when he arrives home safely.
We're actually very wet here again today. Soggy. The path to the woodshed is squishy and slippery, and I'm hoping my wood packing days are about up! (Well, for a while. I don't mind so much when the sun shines...funny how that works.)

I have no gardening news. But I did see Mom's new car! I am so pleased for her. I think the car is just right for Mom and her pup, Snorkle. Well, he's not exactly a pup, but he is small and is wonderful company for mom, especially now. Snorkle has changed somewhat since Roy passed away, but he's always more than ready to go for a car ride. He has the whole back seat to himself, but, apparently, he prefers to ride in the front passenger seat. This is the new car!

I would like to see the sun!! And feel that warmth on my arms and face! I miss my tan! .....Sandals feel better with bare feet than socks! (I think I will soak in the tub and carry on reading my book.)

We're having a very blustery day here. I'm expecting the power will go. Had coffee with Bonitoad this morning (she made a lovely table runner for me) and I noticed on the weather channel on tv that we have a red warning. Bonitoad lives much closer to the river than I do, and the water is already very high. Then, coming home, I had to re-route because we have trees down. Was so happy to see lights here, so I started up the wood stove. Will figure out a supper than I can keep warm on the top of the stove. Sometimes the rain is coming down sideways. Wicked. The birds are seeking shelter in the wood shed..... and now we have thunder and lightning.

Whew! Well, we experienced another Pineapple Express! That weather system certainly brings a lot of moisture with it. Now we're expecting a nice sunny weekend, but the temp will be dropping. It may have been very wet today, but it was also very warm.

I wish I could understand this little guy. He's a Marmalade Persian and was chosen by our youngest DD. As a kitten, he and her other cat just didn't work out, so he came to stay with us for a couple of weeks. He will be five years old on Feb. 28/05 (born on the 29th) and we are still having upsets with his little issues and needs. He loves men's bare feet, but prefers my lap. And when you look at this photo when he was a kitten, it's hard to imagine he'd be any trouble at all!
